Such a perfect day

Still down in London celebrating the most perfect of days amongst friends, family and all at RUFC who have witnessed one of the greatest turnarounds in our history. What a day to put in such an accomplished performance - any other result would have been a travesty. For those who cannot bear to see us succeeding, please keep your self - serving bile and jibes to yourselves. This is a day for us true supporters. We will enjoy it as we deserve to enjoy it and any negatives from the serial complainers will fall on very happy but deaf ears. Onwards and upwards and to all true supporters, I hope you had the most fantastic of days!

It really was a great day. I must say I enjoyed it more than V Orient, but I guess they are all unique and memory fades.

I never expected us to get anywhere near this result. I never expected us to get into the play offs. And once in the play offs I was still far from convinced. It shows how much I know. Im not sure how Warne has done it and Im not sure how the team just gelled and got better and evolved....and I am dam sure I dont know how Woody has done what he has done over the last few games.

What I could see was a belief in the squad and a really positive attacking team-I just didnt expect it to hold together. The players and staff really have nurtured that belief and just gone through the roof playing at their very best and today was a very good performance given the opposition and the nerves that can play havoc.

It really is a wonderful day for RUFC. To come back after last seasons disappointments is one thing. To bounce straight back to the championship is even bigger.

Simply outstanding club performance.

It was a stunning performance. Thought Emmanuel Wood Vaulks were the standout players but apart from Taylor who I've always said is not a winger & Ball who is abit lightweight rest of the side backed them up. Can't understand why Newell didn't take the penalty, sure he scored the last penalty we had given. Enjoy yesterday but now next season is work in progress. Got to get a squad of championship quality players to keep us up. I'm not expecting anything other than working to our budget but no were good players. Want players who can compete in the championship. Dawne Holmes from Scunny that would be a start.

Yes, a great day to round off a remarkable season. To come straight back up after last seasons horrors is a truly amazing achievement when so many of us feared another struggle (see Sunderland). Congratulations to everyone involved. 🎩 hats off to Richard Wood. I have to hold my hands up here: Pre season i posted that we should have released Mattock and Wood as i thought Mattock was on a downward spiral and Woody's legs had gone. Mattock proved me wrong, Woody has made me look a complete idiot. Well done, i will have to.. erm... eat my hat 🎩 Finally, comiserations to Paul Hurst and Shrewsbury who have have also had an incredible season, finished third, got to 2 finals and reaped zero reward. Its a cruel game.

For me its about keeping the core of a successful side together but strengthening where needed. But I expect a lot depends on loan players, Towell etc, will they move on or how many fringe players will be leaving. We will have to see, but it will be important to retain that camaraderie and unity that is so important; unlike last time when we lost our better loanees and had some dissent from others which didn't bode well.

I believe lessons have been learned from last time.

Spot on Calypso! Sealing deals on Towell. Rodak and Emmanuel is the priority. I hope Wood uses yesterday as his swansong and joins the coaching staff. Get Proctor match fit and let Warne work his magic in the transfer market. Just enough time to take a breath before we start the next campaign. Onwards and upwards and breathe!

Think it will come down to Manny, if they consider he'll get the game time compared to being a regular for us? That being the case, it will be good for them to see how he does being a regular in the Champ before they take it on. We might have to keep away from a get out Jan clause if we can, cos if he comes good and Ipswich struggle then they'll want him back.

Towell will have no chance at Brighton is it? - can see that probably happening again, and Rodak too who will now be light years from the 1st team at Fulham. We do need to strengthen with 4 or 5. I'm not sure Woody has another season left in him, but there's our defensive coach right there! - and what a way to sign off! Really think we should try Taylor up top when we're brave enough for a 4-4-2, he's got way more about him than Ball who won't cut it, and Lavery isn't good enough for L1 never mind the Champ so will be surprised if we do some kinda deal on that one. Purrington might make more of an appearance next season, not sure how much longer Mattock can keep up. We're going to need an older centre half if Woody gets a clipboard out, Icky & Ajayi (as good as he was yesterday), as a pair scares the hell outta me, but if they both develop under Woody's guidance I think they can become top players.

Speaking of that. Development. Under Evans nothing, under Warney and his staff - its all about that. Warney is already a better manager SE ever is / was and is a credit to our club internally and externally. I think it's that factor that fills me with most optimism, whereas SE just splatted players at it, the staff we have now develop players and in a league we're in competing against teams we will for a club our size, that has to be our difference - getting just technically able players within our budget and turning them into seasoned Championship grade. I think Warney knows this.

Thinking of players we have good enough even as squad players for League 1 incl' loans. Rodak Emmanuel Ajayi Dom Ball Mattock Purrington Williams Vaulks Towell Palmer Newell Smith Wiles Bailey-King, can't think of any more. Proctor could get fit, Wood kept in some capacity. Taylor & Forde couldn't cut it in the championship last time, nothing has changed. Price ***mings Ihiewke Manny Taylor Forde Potter Bray Ball Yates Lavery JCH can all go. If we are to consolidate in the championship got to be done.

I totally agree with that Calypso.... it's a diferrent situation to last time. As you say, keep the majority, keep the spirit and just add a few more.

Great Season, Great Weekend..... UTM

no more important player than a keeper at championship level.

Rodak has proved he has evolution in him. We have to keep him if at all possible. He looks good now at L1 level. Remember how good some of those keepers are in the Championship.

Mattock, wood, deserve to be retained for 2 reasons: They have both done well enough and you have to reward that to keep the spirit alive.

the whole defence bar Emmanuel need to be moved on in as incremental way as possible.

Ball has had chance and not contributed enough
Taylor can compete at championship level and might be worth keeping him in the squad.

so my squad starts with
Newall
Williams
Vaulks
wood
mattock
smith (superb job and filled big boots more than adequately)
Rodak
Towel
All the coaching staff and managment staff
Tony Stewart
The 8-9 k regular supporters
continued great commercial department pushing on even more.
staff in shop and office are good enough and always been class A1 service to me.

The servers behind the bar need to go or have much better training.
Much improvement on amount of pies and hot sausage rolls
Miller BEAR is a keeper too.
my season sicket
great parking around the ground
That Rotherham family club feel
another screen
better PA at half time or get rid

Agree with all of that Ex. Failing huge investment to be able to throw money at it (which carried no guarantees and does little for team spirit) it has to be the way for the club to develop. I would also agree that Warne is already a better manager than SE at managing his resources, I don't know what the budget was at Warne's disposal but I bet it was considerably less than the wasteful approach adopted by SE.

Lovely to hear from you Towdlad.

Did you make it to Wembley for the big game? I've got to say I enjoyed the whole occasion more than the Orient game. Perhaps because I was really quite relaxed this time about whether we went up or not. I couldn't help my jaw dropping again at the impressiveness of the stadium (despite its well known drawbacks). My youngest (who has still never seen us lose Ex!) was literally speechless for ten minutes when she walked into the arena. A superb day all round.

I think Warne has already achieved something that Evans never has. He has improved a team that was on its backside and had to cut the budget at the same time. I don't think Evans would take a job like that on. We were loathed and despised when Evans was here because of the baggage he brings with him. Now we are back to what we traditionally have always been - a club that fights hard to punch above its weight and wins respect for how we go about it. Every possible box ticked.

It was amazing and I didn't think Warne could do it I hold my hand up he has proved me and many others wrong. It was far better than last time because we were the better team on the day and we are a real team throughout the club. Whatever happens next year I feel we should commit to Warne even if we go down as the man to run the team the season after, we need stability now and solid investment and long term planning

Thanks for that smiler. I was rather offended by a poster from the dark side and in a fit of pique endured a self imposed exile from posting, although I did take the odd peek from time to time.

I didn't make the final, I don't get around much anymore and Towdlass is not well so don't like to leave her, but I had a few tears of joy seeing all of you Millers who were there, so proud to see the sea of red and white on the telly, although I did feel for the Salop fans. Its no mean feat to finish 3rd and to still not get promoted must have been heartbreaking for them. Onwards we go.

I hope you will be posting regularly Towdlad. Your contributions are always valuable.

I also feel sorry for The Shrews. I spoke to a few of them outside the stadium and at a service station break and to a man and woman they were gutted but very gracious in defeat, and acknowledged that we were far the better side on the day. The worry for them would be where they go from here. They have been outstanding this season, bu tHurst is almost certain to leave and probably two or three of their better players. I sincerely hope that they don't find themselves in the same spiral that sucked Orient into decline after we met them at Wembley. They don't deserve that.

I totally agree with Derby that we need to collectively get behind Warne. It would be such a shame if the idiots that follow us (and we do have some) turn on him as they turned on Redfearn and Stubbs, who were both treated very badly (especially Redfearn who deserved much better). We may well struggle next season but we need to acknowledge the size of the challenge, give it a good go within our resources and without turning the squad upside down (a few astute signings are needed but the core of the team including Rodak, Towell and Emmanuel if we can sign them permanently or on loan again - whichever works) and see the big picture. It can be another season of development and progress even if we don't manage to stay up. If we do it will be a bonus.
