All I'm thinking is could be last game of the season tomorrow night. Take out the fragile players from Saturday Ihiewke & Palmer if we are going to lose let's go down fighting giving it our best shot. If Mattock can't play in midfield play Ball in the hole behind Smith.

Mattock as '' the holding midfield player''? Why not try Ajayi in the hole just behind Smith?
Flaming firkins!

Wouldn't have said it but Mattock is one of the better footballers at the club. Don't think it would be a problem to him.

You've said many times that players shouldn't be played out of position.

Why in Gods name would you want to play a left back in central midfield for the first time in his career in our biggest game of the season?

King Ronnie didn't rate Vaulks either.  He has said several times since we got him that Vaulks doesn't do it for him.  I could be wrong but I think Ronnie released Vaulks at Tranmere.  I haven't heard Ronnie say he doesn't rate Palmer but even if he has (whisper it) he isn't always right.

I listened to Radio Sheffield on the way back from S****horpe and he did say that he didn't know what Palmer brought to the side. I was really disappointed because, a) I think he's wrong and b) why would he publicly undermine a player who Warne has invested in and is clearly in his long term plans. If I were PW, I'd be having a word in Ronnie's shell-like. The last thing we need is the crowd getting on Palmer's back because of what a former manager said rather than judging him on his performances.

t71

is slighting palmer your replacement for the jch bandwagon

palmer is a class player and with the exception of Saturday where he was playing against the ref IMO

HE has played the holding midfielder role very well

did you slate smallwood by any chance

JUST GET BEHIND THE PLAYERS pick faults in their game performance as is your rights but find another topic than being anti palmer please

in regards ronnie moore legend as a player and manager he may have been but he hasnt been pulling up the trees lately

You raise a good point T71. A number of times Palmer was penalised when their midfielder Yate**** the deck at the slightest contact.

Palmer didn't have his best game on Wednesday but he clearly has some quality on the ball and he does more to break up the opposition play than he gets credit for. He may not be 6ft4in tall or a man mountain, but he knows where to be and when.

I have all the time in the world for Ronnie Moore, but his opinion is only one of many. I would say that Ronnie likes a certain type of player. Two big strong centre backs, a big striker with a small one up front, and get the ball into the box as often as possible. he likes his players to win physical battles all over the pitch. Nothing wrong with that, but as I say we all see different things in players.

Interesting Ronnie comment.

He may be right but I like to watch him and I think its fairly clear what he brings to the team. He is very comfortable on the ball, looks up and direct most of the time and moves the ball quickly and has potentially the most incisive pass in the team. In short I think he is probably the best all round midfielder we have. Either way he seems to give more shape and central gravity to the team than anyone bar Smith.

Its not the size that makes em sexy its the shape.

Who would have thought one player, who hasn't played very much for us, would have attracted so much attention? The mind is well and truly boggled.
