ok 71 lets start a well mannered discussion on why you dropped palmer again
from watching him play he has the best bits of smallwood frecklingotn and potter and he is ours
Contrary to what's said on MM, I'm always well mannered. Just have an opinion. Potter was past his best when he joined us so you can't compare to him. Smallwood was good at what he did at this level, the dirty work. Frecks in his pomp with us was as good as any attaching midfielder we've had while we've been at the New York. Palmer doesn't compare to Smallwood as a holding midfielder or to Frecks as an offensive midfielder. He'll never get into the positions Frecks got in to score goals nemind scoring them. Nobody can tell me different. Vaulks & Towell are our best two midfield players, it's proven.
If we go five in the middle we will have lost before we get out the changing room. It doesn't suit us and we never get anyone close to the main striker.
Rodak
Emmanuel
Vaulks
Wood
Purrington
Newell
Palmer
Towell
Taylor
Smith
Ball
Vaulks has to play CB - his best position and the only one in which he's really effective. Palmer and Towell are the best midfield 'play-makers' we've had in years and are nailed on to start unless unfit. I'd give Lavery a start up front with Smith - he's stronger on the ball than Ball and has some good skill. Forde and Newell out wide to feed the crosses into our two big boys.
You have to maintain an attacking threat or what's the point and we can defend from the front - even hold the ball up sometimes.
Ball is a good player but combative he isn't so ticker Taylor can be a threat and close down...Taylor and Smudge for me and a 442.
Back four played ok ( after subs made ) so two holding but flexible midfielders....then others....well - from whose fit as a fiddle to work their little cotton socks off!
Ticker to score 2 with an assist....Wigan will take their foot off the peddle and we'll bite them in the arr5s.

This was the team which beat Wigan 2-0 at their ground Saturday, 21st April 2001. A scorcher scored by Kevin Watson from outside the penalty box in the first half and a second scored by Mark Robins in second half. It was a warm and sunny afternoon. About one hour before kick off I was allowed into the ground to have a look around by some very friendly stewards. They were very proud of their nearly new stadium. Paul Warne will know what to expect. He played that day. As for our chances on Saturday? We've nothing to lose. We need to stay injury free though. Keep calm and play to our strengths.
but like i have said before buying palmer at the time was too good an opportunity to miss and speaking to several burton fans through work .they had said thought we had got a bargain
they said sometimes he had an attitude issue but that was because he fell out with clough
this season and last we had two really good midfielders tom and richie but issue isthey are on loan not ours and even if we get promoted no certainty towell would sign for us
in regards vaulks his pace lets him down as right back and attacking midfielder i really do think he is a better as a holding midfielder or CB
the long term plan is for palmer to be our play maker
I still think David Ball will come good.
I think we need to have some pace in the team and try and stretch the play.
We’re not good enough to try and play for a point so I would put in Williams or Taylor to give us a better outlet.
I think we're being suckered into this thought pattern of "quality" and the general attributes of our team - due to my general grouse of the relative "quality" of our squad and this league.
This comes to mind ( for one thing ) because of our conception of pace in the squad. I remember thinking ( as a lad ) that Bobby Ham was like lightening! Then we went down to play Tottenham at White Heart Lane and Nice one squirrel walked passed him like he was stood still...lol
The marketing is working!
But we are in this league and can only play what teams face us. My deepest innermost thoughts are though - somehow - we'll find a way to bottle it.....like bringing Yates on when we need a goal.....lol
Ironically - Yates will probably score a Revell'esk goal to win at Wembley....lol
Then - If - we go up - the price of mediocre players are going through the roof - so - again - our 3 year projects will be sorely missed and we'll suffer / share the South Yorkshire YOYO affect with Barnsley who have copied our business plan for the Championship - cheap as chips - scratch away to survival the best way we can. NW & KJ wouldn't do it but PW certainly will.
Not booking a London hotel room though just yet.

Tizer says we'll play 3 in midfield, not always right but makes sense tomorrow. Likely side Rodak; Emmanuel Ajayi Wood Purrington; Forde Palmer Vaulks Towell Newell; Smith
I tipped winner last year on MM of the National. I tip horses before they run Kempo, Zil. Try it even if they lose then someone might take you serious. This years 2 against the field: Anibale Fly & Baie Des ILes. Both have some scope but it's a hard race to find the winner.
