How many points to playoffs???

Palmer was my man of the match - he not only ran the midfield with Towell, but he put his head in where it hurts late on to quell two dangerous situations. Fleetwood were a well organised side, difficult to break down, but patience paid off in the end. Didn't like the decision to drop Emmanuel. Team played much better with Vaulks at CB - he has to play there for rest of season. Purrington did well. I'd like to see us go with someone else alongside Smith whose excellent work is not being made the most of by Ball. Perhaps Lavery? Tense day but happy!

Agree about Vaulks best position is centre back. Just then we haven't got a holding player in midfield. We'll struggle to get anything at Wigan anyway. See when we are the play-offs about Palmer, if I'm wrong i'll say so. Forde got to start on the right. Taylor isn't a winger. Agree about starting Lavery up front with Smith who has surprised me. Playing well.

Towell yes but Palmer not the holding midfielder we need. Can't have those two in midfield at Wigan. Said Smith played well. Ball think it's time to give Lavery a start.

You really do not know what you are talking about T71.Both Palmer and Towell played very well. Many occasions they won the ball and looked for opportunities to make a forward pass but there was no movement up front.I would consider playing Taylor instead of Ball,he has pace and that's always a worry to defenders,Lavery is not the answer,he is slower than Ball.I still think we are as good as any of the play-off contenders.

Agree on Towell played well & Taylor up front. Like someone said on MM if Potter gets fit what we going to do play Towell in defence? Been thinking about it. Mattock when fit, holding midfield player. He has pace, can tackle. Our best side: Rodak; Emmanuel Vaulks Wood Purrington; Forde Towell Mattock Newell; Taylor Smith

I agree that Towell played well, Palmer also but, Newell was MOTM by a country mile. Maybe people are getting a bit blasé at the things he does? Two assists, a goal, superb crosses all game, ran the poor full-back dizzy and as for the piece of skill pulling that ball out of the sky over his shoulder.........Wow! Or did I just make that up

The thing I like about Newell at the moment is his appetite to get involved. He used to go missing in action but he seems to want to be at the centre of everything at present.

I like to see players trying to do something different and trying to make an impression on the game. Sometimes things do not come off but, I like players who have the belief that 'if it doesn't work once, I'll have the courage to try again'. To many players play it safe too often which can lead to a boring game with few highlights or any real moments that get supporters off their seats.

As an old (Very) member of the wingers Union, I love to see all four of our wide-men going at full backs, it doesn't always work and leaves them open to criticism but, when it does, it is a joy to watch and inevitably leads to goal mouth action.

I think we are very lucky at the moment to have four players who can do this and, in my opinion, one of the four that can win a game on his own......which gets me a little concerned as to why we have not exercised the option on him yet because if I can see it, so can other clubs.

And last : Smiler, come back, your measured and informed comments are sorely missed (By me anyway biggrin).

I'm an optimistic person by nature... but I still think we have work to do.

I hope we don't need something from the final Home game against Blackpool, but looking at our fixture list, we still just might...

Bristol Rovers won't be a push-over, but winning that will go a long way.

I don't see us getting many points at all in our remaining away games.

So, I'm hopeful but still nervy :)

I admire the optimism on this site. See whose got most flaws in there players in the play-off sides. Our flaws: A keeper who doesn't know how to deal with crosses. No Right back good enough. Short of a Centre back. A soft centre of midfield without Vaulks in it. No goalscorer to partner Smith whose playing well. But don't think other sides are much better. If we can get our better players there & playing to there level got as much chance as anyone.

I'm abit misunderstood. I know Rome wasn't built in a day, just want us to be the best we can be. Mistake we made January window was not getting a centre back in, better than what we've got not was a good player. The we'd have Vaulks & Towell back in midfield who were there in our unbeaten run.

Regarding Mmad. Everybody is up Frogmillers arse. That isn't me. If they don't like it real then I won't fit. Frogmiller never liked me though I do owe that site an apology. Looks like I was wrong about JCH. kEMPO is banned but he's on more now than ever as Zil, IBS ect...

we all want the best for our club and team everyone has an opinion that's why we are human

and for those of us to be married know there is only one opinion that counts  not ours lol

to reply to your other points

1) getting palmer in the January transfer was an opportunity to good to miss. he is now our player not a loan. towell will be going back at the end of the season. If we go up and we sign him then all the better for having a stronger choice in midfield

if we don't then palmer and vaulk will be good for next season in league 1

in regards jch we all knew he had the talent but lacked the attitude to unlock it despite the many chance he had

in regards kempo well there are ways and means to cir***vent bans

Not seen Palmer play yet, looking forward to see what he brings (couldn't get in the team when we were up here last half term).

Also having last been to Wigan on a very very cold Tues night, mistaking the rugby ground first with their stadium then turning up to a 'what on earth is this' ground like Springfield Park - looking forward to the improvement in facilities!

Not expecting anything whatsoever from the game, our concern is an extended season and keeping them fresh, some games you just gotta throw ya hands up and say really what do what from this? We only need 6 points - I'm not sure the risks are such we should go all out for to win this one?

Good thinking Exeter - don't stress about the Wigan game so bring in squad players for fitness and squad cohesion and .....

Keep key players in mothballs so no injuries in a no win scenario....BUT.....

That's a major decision and clever too if it works out....

Who'd be a manager....lol

Look at Pep.....I bet he'd wished he had played his strongest team against that other UNITED and finished the job off....

PS that STERLING is rubbish - no end product when under presume....never liked him...lol

Wigan absolutely need to win there's no doubt about it - we just have to be sensible about it - different priorities. Of course it's about managing your resources (players), I'm not saying exclude entirely, we don't have the luxury to do that - but we can manage other aspects. But that's what Warney et al are paid for. And yes who would be a manager - I would!

Yeah I've never rated Stirling either, he has spent years not knowing where the goal is and seems to have not addressed that. Yeah hes scored more this season than usual but that's what happens when you've got such quality around you. I wouldn't say many if any of his goals have been of his own quality or movement, more others contributing and him using his pace - nothing great about that. Will flop in Russia
