Amazing today - not a spectacle by any means but got job done. PW tactics spot on and we can do it this year I'm convinced - we never looked like conceding
Brilliant win. There is something about teams who are going well and full of confidence that they can go away and get solid wins out of tough games. It is difficult to describe but you can sort of feel it happening and it sort of becomes self-fulfilling.
Big shout for Ihiekwe. He will never be a left back and it would have been a shame for him if he had come into the side and our unbeaten run had ended, but he put in a strong performance and did a great job for the team when called upon. Hats off to him.
Not sure about Shrewsbury now. Their supporters like to play the 'little team come good' card but they have some big opinions of themselves. They seem to think that they are a good footballing team who were beaten by any combination of (1) a sickness bug in their squad, (2) a poor ref, (3) their own team not performing well or (4) us being big and physical and direct. A few acknowledge that we deserved the win but any compliments are a bit backhanded and given grudgingly.
Here are a couple of home truths for them.
Their pitch is diabolical. They are vulnerable to good delivery into the area, including set pieces, not least because their keeper doesn't know when to stick and when to twist. We do have players who deliver a good set piece and some big lads to attack them. We also have a player with a great long throw. They struggle to score goals and our defence is increasingly resolute. We can play as well, as any review of some of our games and goals this season demonstrates, but we weren't about to turn up on Saturday bearing in mind all of the above and try to play them at one touch tippy tappy football were we? It was a big game and we found a way to dominate it and win it and head back with the points. I don't think we need to apologise for that, do we?
As for their superior passing game, only six teams in league one have scored fewer goals this season than Shrewsbury, who have won a lot of games by the odd goal in low scoring contests. Our games this season have produced 50% more goals than theirs. The stats suggest that there was one dull, boring side on view on Saturday, and it wasn't us.
I respect very much what Paul Hurst has achieved this season, but have lost a bit of respect for some of their supporters. At least for some of those that post on their Blue and Amber site. It makes the win that little bit sweeter.
Totally agree even the local bbc sports fan said we was big ugly and played for fouls and ref fell for them
Thats fresh a ref been on our side and whats even worse do any radio sheff reporters ever come out and make those comments mmm me thinks not
Well.done pw.
Bring the donny to the slaughter lol
Another hard match but i do believe we will win
Hurstys interview on BBC Shrops was very measured and he said we deserved it and out played them. He mentioned lowest ball in play match but didn't slag us off. The host of the show dis repeatedly. ****er.
I thought we had a good plan on the day, PW said they had a look at the pitch and tweaked the tactics to match. You can’t win every week playing like Mac City, what shows in the team at the moment is that we can go to places and grind out wins. Although I don’t think this game was ground out we are bossing teams at the moment by power strength and speed. I’m sure at some point it will come to an end, and some will moan that we haven’t gone 20 unbeaten but come Saturday we know what team will start and we know how we will play. How many times do you hear of inconsistency not knowing ‘which team will turn up’. I’m just hoping we don’t run out of steam for a few games yet.
I reckon part of our strength at the moment is the lack of injuries. Apart from Proctor of course, we've just had short term niggles to deal with (Towell and Mattock recently) which has allowed us to maintain more or less the same starting XI. If we can keep everyone fit until the end of the season, we're going to be a real threat.
I think the lack of injuries has certainly help consolidate a winning team, switching out Forde/newel for Williams/Taylor I think we would be ok with. Palmer for volkes/towell would be a bigger loss, but the greatest risk for us is Smith up front, we don’t have anyone to play the role in the squad that’s fit. Fingers crossed he keeps on going...
It is unusual when you see some squads with 12+ players injured and we have a team busting a gut week in week out all fit. Whatever the regime, it’s really working for us.
Are the low number of injuries down to luck or how fit the team are ,I reckon the latter as we are playing a physical game but are not picking up strains etc like in the last few seasons.

that could be a moot point and the possibly the players are enjoying it as well
Dropped two points at home tonight to Gillingham. That will do nicely. Strangely their home form has deserted them. They are at Charlton on Saturday which is a tough one. I noticed the crowd was 4,800 for a game which could have sent them top if they had won it. Hursty must be wondering why he has bothered.
So Shrewsbury have hit their did in form, nearly all teams do as the season goes on. We have hopefully already had ours.
They have only taken 4 points from the last 4 games, I can’t see Wigan and Blackburn dropping so many at the moment but we will see!
