I do play chess, but have no illusions about the fact that I am not particularly good. I think I reached third at one point in the Dinno Comp chess club league ladder many years ago, and can hold my own against my eleven year old who has just got a hang of the rules.
There is little that is more frustrating than getting murdered at chess and not comprehending how it all unravelled.
I see from a quick look at the site Wotsisname that you play the mighty Urbanovsky next. Good luck with that one.

Urbanovsky declined to play me, smiler. Unsure why.
Still playing live games on Instantchess. I'm flying the flag for the United Kingdom.
My current record is as follows
Played games: 173
Won: 167
Lost: 5
Draw: 0
Adjourned: 1
I have now been promoted to the Masters Class
Current Position: 31 of 49
I'll be taking a break to charge up the batteries. I going for the top spot in the next few weeks.
On another note it's great that we won 2-1 against S****horpe. Play off final at Wembley at the end of the season? Nah! I'm going for automatic promotion. It's there for the taking.
I used to play chess. I was taught by my old dad who loved the game, but he would never let me win to give me encouragement, the thesis being that I would learn from my mistakes. In actual fact I got bored since my attention span is so short and I couldn't form a strategy in advance nor foresee his game plan and only countered his moves. Its for the same reason I'm useless at cards and dominoes, and my chess set languishes in the attic, so sorry, not able to contribute much to your thread.
But you do have an impressive record Wotsisname and I marvel at your endurance. well done.
I've put in a lot of effort and still flying the flag for the United Kingdom. I'm trying to reach Premium League III (3)
UTM!
I love a tryer. But if you have been playing chess "for a few weeks" and have won 523 out of 549 you must be playing against my pet cat. No, on second thoughts the cat would probably win. Try my pet hamster.
Ridgeway Kid has a lot to say. C'mon fella give me a game.
UTM!
Funny on a thread where I make a single short comment and you make numerous repetetive references to your chess prowess I am accused of having "a lot to say." I repeat that to be 1st place in the Premium League 9 after only a few weeks is laughable. Unless you're a reincarnation of Bobby Fischer of course.
There is a player in second place who appears to be from the Russian Federation called ' Чжуан цзы ' . However his name translates as Zhuang Zi. I will shake him off soon and make progress in a higher league.
PS I'm considering online pool as my next adventure. Watch out all you pool hustlers.
PPS I will return to the sporting side of this board as soon as time allows.

You are in even more exalted company than that Wots. Apparently Pope John Paul II was a very keen chess player.
I enjoy a number of other sports, and notably golf as I advance through my middle years. There is a great irony in that only when your body is beginning to fail you do you have the time to play the game regularly, but I manage to cling on to a single figure handicap which I like to think makes me respectable and competitive if not Masters material.
Away from sport I enjoy collecting small antique curios and small wooden boxes, particularly Tunbridge ware. I never thought when I was eighteen that I would ever be saying that, but I have grown to love the detail and intricacy of the work involved in creating those items and find them very pleasing.
