Frecks next out of the door?

Strong rumours he's off to Lincoln before the end of the month, at this rate they'll be no fewker left.

It's no coincidence that our recent return to form has occurred when Frecks has been available to play! He's the most important player we have - if he plays we generally play well. Having said that, he's in the twilight of his career and he is frequently sidelined through injury so I wouldn't be surprised if he was lured away by the offer of a longish contract. Plus the fact that Lincoln is his home town (he was born in my village and many of his family are still here) and they would love to see him back. I suppose it will all come down to money and from Rotherham's perspective, whether there is a good enough replacement available.

I rate Frecks as our most important player of recent years. He has been tremendous for us. When fit he is still our best midfield player by a distance. But as we all know he is increasingly prone to niggling injuries that mean that he is absent a lot and not always fully fit when available.

Some say he should be found a coaching role, but is that actually what he wants to do and is he any good at it? Not all good players make good coaches.

What he wants to do is the big factor here. He is out of contract at the end of the season so he will have choices. If someone (Lincoln or whoever else) offers him a decent deal on decent length contract and/or offers us money for an injury prone player with four months on his current deal, maybe it would be the best deal all round? Would we or should we offer him another deal? I'm not so sure.

I think what I am saying is that these things are not always straightforward and if he does leave either now or in the Summer, I wouldn't take it as a sign of a lack of ambition. Just a really good player who isn't quite what he was moving on at a certain point in his career. The key will be finding someone to replace him who can be just as good for us, which isn't going to be easy. That player isn't currently at the club.

Maybe he only has 26 games a year in him but the stats show that we are much more likely to get a result during those 26 games. Mad to let him go imho.

Agreed deal with Mansfield who have decided to pull out according to Jonathon Veal

Now is he going to Lincoln or was that not on the cards?

on the club site he has gone, shocking absolute shocking. We better bring in at least 3 more players and some quality before 1st Feb, otherwise we deserve some answers from the board

Lincoln have given him a two and a half year deal. At his age and with his recent injury record, I doubt he would have got anything like that with us or any other club than Lincoln. If he wants to go then how could we stop him after what he has done for us? If its a good deal for him and we get any sort of fee, that must be better than keeping him here and running his contract down and having him here unhappy.

Frecklington has been magnificent for RUFC. He has been a quality player and a leader. Thanks to him for all he has done and good luck to him.

Having said that, even if he was only playing 75% fit and two games in three he was still our best midfielder. He needs replacing with quality. We have nobody in the current squad who can adequately replace him. Vaulks is nowhere near. Potter has his own injury issues and limitations. Towell is decent but not someone who can influence a game like Frecklington could. Wiles may be a good prospect yet but unfair to expect him to replace Frecklington straight away. If the club doesn't bring in a quality midfielder on a permanent basis to plug this gap, we will suffer.

I'm not feeling too optimistic about the future of our club after  the signing of Smith.

I hope he can do a job for us for all our sakes.

I can understand why Frecks & the club would want the deal, Frecks gets a 2 & a half year deal & we get a fee for an injury prone player in the last 6 months of his contract but I feel realky sad at the departure of a player who IMO was the single most important Millers player since we moved to NYS & in my top ten Millers players of my lifetime. A leader, a workhorse, a creative goalscoring club legend. Thanks Frecks for all your service to our club & every ounce of luck in the future, you will be missed.
