Let's go for a Dikho type of forward, to play alongside Bally.Forget a big target man. While Moore has done well for us,we have been forced into a lot of hoofball, to accommodate him.The top priority must be a good solid but not slow central defender, to play alongside Ajayi.Richard Wood was a good player, ten years ago, but he's past his sell by date and is a liability now.Bring another full back in and I think the playoffs are there for the taking.
JCH to partner Ball up front. Ajayi is a must to start a game. Warne knows that Ajayi is good for a goal or two. Let's go with what we've got and move on. We have a few decent players in the current squad. As I've said before two or three decent players are needed now during the open transfer window. We cannot afford silly money, that's quite obvious. We cannot begin to compete with the alleged Chinese millionaires who have taken over at other clubs.
With players we've got need a big lad up front. JCH if Warney goes by what he says you keep the shirt if you've played well Johno got it for the next game. But don't think JCH is one of Warney's boys like Dom Ball who I'd bring back. With Emmanuel stopping don't need another full back.
The last 2 games, changed at half time when KM came on, changed after 60 mins when JCH came on. At this level where players are prone to mistakes and don't have the technical ability to keep possession - a big lad up top is still required, to make the ball stick.
Absolutely need someone to hold the ball up and play others in. If KM has gone then it will have to be JCH. We should offload Yates in this window as he hasn't got enough strength or pace.
I think everyone wants Yates to do well, and to have every chance to prove himself, but at the moment although he works hard he still looks a bit short of what we need. To be fair he isn't and never will be a target man and that is what we have asked him to try and be lately. If he stays he will likely be back-up for the foreseeable future.
I don't mind having a big target man as long as we mix it up. It's too easy to get sucked into hitting everything long to a big man (Crouch syndrome) just because he is there.
I agree we could do with more pace in the side. John Taylor is the only genuinely quick player in the first team squad.
Not sure which game people were watching @Millers v Blackburn. Yates did a sterling job in the first half against the Rovers defence. He needs to be coached to a quality standard. Shall we let him go and do a sterling job elsewhere? I don't think so. He is one of our own.
I've watched Yates train and play and think at his age he should know / show better than he has to offer. It's all about opinions but mine is that he should not even be a professional footballer.
The vision of JCH is ( for me ) is that he belongs in a baby grow. A big one mind you.
Both need a strong character with knowledge of player development - we have no one of that description at the club - in my opinion naturally.
When I pay my money and see Yates on the field of play - I want to go home and feed the cats.
I'd like to know if the club has any players on their radar other than the ones being bandied about in public. The Head of Recruitment should have a number of scouts working for him. Or is that just a myth and a figment of my imagination?
The answer to that will be we have a number of targets on our radar. Followed by the club's wanted too much or we missed out to someone else. We might take someone else's kids to showcase for them.
Exactly moore is the only goal proven striker we have/ had any chance of signing this transfer .so if me miss moore we will get the usual baffle and sign nobody or a somebody he has his eye on jaded will be our opinion as he prob be end.of.life footballer
Just for the record, whilst I have always said that there is nothing wrong with having a big target man provided he is used properly, none of the current front runners in League One play with a big target man. They may have strikers (eg Will Grigg, Danny Graham, Steffan Payne) who have a bit of physicality about them, but they also have good movement, a bit of pace and athleticism and certainly aren't route one target men. I worry sometimes that Rotherham fans seem to think Rotherham teams have to be direct and in-your face. Why can't we be a good footballing side? In fact to my mind any team with players like Williams, Newell, David Ball and Frecklington in it is probably better suited to passing and moving than it is to playing for set pieces and knock downs.
Agreed smiler, we've played the best football of our season recently without Moore & enabled Ball to flourish. A six foot 6 targetman is not the answer the "Rotherham way" or not.
It's always good to have options though. If having a 6 foot+ striker in the squad allows Warne to change the game - such as at Walsall - then I reckon it's worth having a tall striker on the books. It doesn't mean the style of football will be worse - just different.
I am expecting this to happen now because there is no pace at all up front.Midfield is also short on pace, therefore I fully expect some quality midfielder brought in, now that we have lost Frecks and a central defender is a must.
