Before all the bile starts to be spewed out about the signing of Michael Smith, let's give the guy a chance.
He's a Miller now like it or not so let's get behind him. after all he didn't do so bad in his spell with Swindon a while back when lots of clubs had him on their radar. The lad has probably lost his way a bit in recent times but who knows s he may resurrect his career with us. After all it wouldn't be the first time this has happened.
Remember Kieron Agard he had hardly pulled any trees up elsewhere when signing for us. Also remember that Ipswich fans were saying the same things about Keifer Moore that the Bury fans are saying about Smith.
Welcome to the Miller's Michael and the best of luck in your endeavours on our behalf.
4 years ago in L1 we had Arnason, Pringle, Agard, Tavs, Dicko, bought Frecks from Pboro etc, and our squad players were being loaned to Bury or sold to Oxford Utd. Fast forward 4 years we're now buying Bury players who are bottom of the league.
Time to come clean board of RUFC, we have similar season ticket holders, still in the same ground that isn't owned by RUFC, why this dramatic inability to sign such players?, the L1 environment is the same as was then - those typess of players we had above are a pipe dream right now.
Tavs and Dicko were loan players. Agard and Pringle were going nowhere until they came here. We went up by finishing fourth in league one after being fifth or sixth most of the season and taking momentum into the play-offs and getting a bit lucky at the right time. We are currently seventh in the same division half way through the season. It felt better last time we were in league one because we had come up from the league below. This time it doesn't feel so good because we have got used to seeing better football and have come down to this league. But the difference between this side and that promotion side isn't that great.
I agree with Towd Codger. Nobody rated Agard at first. Revell had many critics. Not many people thought Moore was going to be any good. Until recently people were saying that Ball wasn't 'a Rotherham-type player' now he is scoring every week.
Michael Smith may not be a 'big signing' but he has done well in this division before and he might do well again. The reality is that unless we sell someone for a fortune (nobody fits the bill) we have to build what we can to get some momentum going again. At least we haven't got a 33 year old has been on a last pay day.
I am critical of some of what we do, but on this signing at least give the lad a chance. I thought when he came on for Bury at NYS early in the season he made a real difference for them. He is a handful and holds the ball up well. He has scored goals before and he could again in the right side. He is a good age. Good luck to him. If it clicks for him he might do well for us.
I watched the interview with warne and basically he said he is an athlete and works hard, which is the criteria for a Rotherham player these days.......run fast, head down and kick it..............great.
Hopefully it will work out
Frecks leaving is criminal, could have kept him until the summer will be a huge hole in the club the lad is a legend in his time here, the stats speak for themselves and we will regret that now.
Likewise going to give Smith a chance and he links up with ball Just need a midfielder on a permanent deal now or in summer Frecks will be a massive hole to fill unfortunately the only player who is possibly capable of that is TOWELL and he isn't ours so we definitely need to sign him at least We also need a potter replacement
If wood goes we will light in defense don't need a loan replacement for him either as we have two defenders of ours on loan so get dom ball back asap give him rest of season in defense playing so we can see or not see what warne sees
sorry brad i have corrected it

yes lets see how smith is and see what we bring in to replace frecks
Vaulks would extend his contract. Forde is under contract for another season after this, works hard but not a winger so let him run his contract out. Taylor, same. Newell would get shut now, gone backwards. Who are actually our players can't think of any apart from Vaulks I would extend there contracts only JCH but Warney won't play him. Price, Bray & Newell can go now.
Waiting to see who we sign... I'd be surprised if there are more than two more to come in... We don't look like we will get relegated now, so that's not a worry... so I'm more interested in seeing if Warne can build the basis of a core team for next season.
I'm assuming the Chairman has no interest in investing enough to challenge for the playoffs this season... so it's just a matter of if whoever we get can improve the side, and in that respect I'd like to see a couple of perms rather than loans.
I don't think one major player will improve us...the recent results that our manager recieved the MOM were poor matches - Blackburn being the best team we faced.
I'm afraid mediocre performances are being rewarded due to poor opposition - and it's the performances that folk are whinging about.
Nick Haughton recalled from loan spell at Chorley
Fleetwood Town can confirm that Nick Haughton has been recalled from his loan spell at National League North side Chorley.
This will be another "couldn't quite get it over the line" scenario,Hillsborough, as he signs for someone else ! Probably be the same with the Macclesfield lad(Wilson?).
