Reading the Tiser article Warne essentially blames bad luck in a large part for our recent run. That is worrying in the extreme. We got a get out of jail free equaliser at Donny, and were given two gifts against Shrewbury. In the bad run we have lost to two sides struggling at the foot of our division and one struggling at the foot of League Two. I don't want to get on Warne's case because I want him and the team to do well, but managers who start blaming bad luck and bad refereeing decisions every week tend to be managers who have lost their way a bit (ask Carlos of S6). The reason we are in a bad run is that we still can't defend (no change there) and have stopped playing constructive attacking football (a flaw that has been gradually creeping in over the last few weeks).

An idiot can be defined as someone who keeps doing the same things but expecting different outcomes. I don't believe that Warne is an idiot (as the thread title cruelly suggests he might be). He strikes me as quite a smart man. So I am sure he will have contemplated the need to change a few things. We have a lot of good footballers in our attacking positions. Ball is one of them.

Warne and his team know more about football than I do, but as a back to basics approach I would suggest three simple steps:-

1. Encourage our players to pass it to each other. We were good at that earlier in the season and were winning more than losing doing it.
2. Pick what you think is the best back 5 (inc keeper) and injuries and suspensions permitting stick with them until January to see whether or not we can find a settled and more consistent unit. Chopping and changing personnel every week is part of the problem.
3. If the defence isn't better come January, ship some out and get some proper defenders in. Teams that leak goals don't generally succeed. Its more of a priority to sort that out than it is to replace Moore. The old adage about successful teams being built on a strong defence is as true today as it ever has been.

Here are some more quotes from a Star interview, the mind boggles !!

While Warne acknowledges he re-assesses personnel and tactics after every defeat, he says the recent lack of wins doesn't necessarily current methods are wrong

"We don't want to change everything we're doing because I don't think we're too far away,"

OH MY GOD THEY BEGGAR BELIEF

and your comments to the media that our defending was dire

and didn't you say your don't need a defensive coach that your happy with your coaching staff at the moment rileys could coach better than that and they are defunct.

well paul warne the evidence on the pitch is THAT YOU DO NEED A DEFENSIVE COACH AND PRETTY DAMN QUICK
