Back at NYS this weekend against bottom of the league Oldham, its still only ealry days in the season, but if play offs are the aim this year, we need to keep up our good home form and take 3 points. Not many teams will like coming to NYS this season, 13 home goals in 3 games shows how well we have started at home (its 4 games really but that was a 2-0 loss to charlton)
Its hard to pick a team at the moment, but id like to see 2 up front tomorrow, just not sure why midfielder to rest 🤔
Its great we're having games scoring a few goals. And I think the goals, and sitters missed in this is reflective of the football we're playing, it's open, expansive & creative. We have some really clever players going forward (Williams, Newell, Taylor), Frecks can chip in with the goals it looks good.
What doesn't look good, is our inability to recognise those times we're not going to score or only get one, and the mind set should be ok accept it, let's make sure we don't concede. It doesn't look like we can get a (settled), back 5 that can be trusted to do that - and as mentioned on this board is our weak leak and will be our undoing. If we do get in and amongst the top reaches, against the better sides this is what we'll be facing and I don't have much confidence of coming out on top.
However I think promotion would be a huge mistake, we need to keep building the back office stuff, get a platform in place if we're going to sustain Championship football. If that is done spending 5yrs in L1 then so be it.
KimiMiller - welcome to the forum - great to see another optimist onboard! I also think we'll be pushing for promotion this year (I tipped top spot and haven't retracted that yet) but I wouldn't mind if we achieved the playoffs and didn't make it all the way. The key thing for me is enjoying watching the side play entertaining football - which we are doing - and we're not being overrun in any games. Promotion would mean an inevitable struggle and limited entertainment.
I think we've all seen enough to be confident that we won't be in a relegation battle this season, and probably also that we won't be challenging for the top two. Maybe a push for a play-off place is a realistic goal. Personally I agree with Ex - I think a bounce straight back into the Championship would be damaging but how can you not aim for it and try and get there given the opportunity?
Me, I am happy enough to see us spending at least as much time attacking as defending and the home games so far have seen enjoyable fare served up. I was delighted when Towell got the winner v Bury but wouldn't have been too gutted had we drawn it (despite dominating) because it was an exciting game. Better than watching technically good sides playing keep-ball and picking us off while we pack men behind the ball, which is what I'd grown accustomed to.
I think we will play the same formation because it has worked and it suits the players we have available. I don't think it will be an easy game at all, but I see us winning it 2-1.
I think we can murder a few teams at home this year and I can feel it in me bones for this one. 4-1 miller's with us saying we should have got 8 on Sunday! UTM
Since I'm a born again moaner, I'm still a bit concerned that the goal against once again from a set piece, and still feel a wee bit jittery with the defence, so work still in progress. Having said that I'll take 5-1 as work in progress any day of the week. Trying not to get too giddy.
Cant complain with that, flowing attacking football. Newell bossed their defence when he came on and Moore ran em ragged. A joy to watch.
Back in the day at Millmoor there was an old fella stood near us who used to shout..'You score em Rotherham and we'll count em', well I was almost yelling that myself yesterday.
