Walsall Positives

Forget Frecklingtons goals - when was the last time he played Saturday and then played 90 mins on the Tuesday?  Not only that he ran the length of the pitch in the 89th minute to get the last goal.  A fully fit Frecklington is one of the best midfield players in League One.

Ihiekwe had a couple of dodgy distribution moments in the first half but defensively he is becoming very dependable.

Towell looked good again.

Moore got a bit of a breather.  Hopefully not injured.  We struggled to get into their half without him - poor old David Ball kept gamely contesting high balls but had no chance.  Either get JCH fit and firing, or get another target man in pronto.  On that theme, the Walsall number 20 Bakayoko looked a very good player to me.  Big enough, good movement and although he might have picked up a second yellow at least he was bothered and working hard unlike one or two of his team mates.

When he got something he could work with Ball looked really good.  He is a clever player.  I think we can use him either off a front man or as the most advanced of the three in midfield, and he has a lot to offer.  Newell also well suited to a midfield three if we don't play him wide.  All of a sudden, lots of options across midfield.

Momentum and confidence are wonderful things.

I'm starting to really like Towell, he looks a very useful acquisition to me, and he has a bloody good engine. I think the reason Frecks was able to keep going is because Towell put in a shift and supported him fully. From now on I want to see Warney chuck the Towell in every game (sorry).
