What a performance - all worked hard and put a title contender to the sword. Moore is unplayable - not just big but a lovely touch on the deck too. We deserved a day like today after the last season.
One thing that stood out - team goals. First 60 minutes, goals we did score and a couple of chances that went begging that from a coach's eyes would have been goals of the season - totally stunning. Southend surprised me, they had nothing, couldn't get the ball off us. Hoping that's not a one off as carry on that way we'll tear teams apart.
Williams was excellent, but that's on top of everybody playing really well, looked like a team with the movement and understanding. It was simple and just making the right choices at the right times, and certain cleverness from Williams & Newell. A clean sheet will do the back 5 a world of good too.
A mate of mine, Lincoln fan, said we looked good the other night. Not just that but looked big and strong as well. Nice to hear that even with that physicality we can play football as well. Still wont be buying a season ticket, Ive made that decision and im sticking to it but great to see results like this. Well played Millers :)
Moore and Proctor completely bullied their defence. They just couldn't handle their size and power. Both were pretty mobile too and linked up well. No League 1 side will enjoy coming up against those two. Moore will rightly get the plaudits but Proctor was tremendous. As strong as a bull. A real crowd favourite in the making. JCH should watch that performance from Proctor on DVD and see how to combine physicality with work rate to make yourself almost unplayable.
In midfield Williams and Newell are both clever footballers who give us quality and width. Potter and Frecklington went about their business and picked up a lot of second balls.
That was the best performance from a pair of full backs that we have seen for a long time.
The centre backs were commanding, but both had lapses in concentration in the second half. We need to cut those out.
O'Donnell didn't put a foot wrong. Great to see him coming to claim a long cross 16 yards out towards the end.
All in all a terrific performance against a side that did well last season. We looked like a big, strong side that worked hard and had some quality about it too. It is only one game and three points, but really encouraging.
We don't need the big talk, all we need is team effort and a will to win. Actions speak louder than words and it was loud and clear this afternoon. The missus has put my humble pie in the oven on a low heat.
Well done Warne(s) Barker and all the boys, a long time coming which makes it all the sweeter
but Proctor was tremendous. As strong as a bull. A real crowd favourite in the making. JCH should watch that performance from Proctor on DVD and see how to combine physicality with work rate to make yourself almost unplayable.
Smiler - interesting that JCH wasn't on the bench today which suggests even Yates is ahead of him. I wonder if his days are numbered?
If he was fully fit and firing, he could be just as destructive as the two we saw today. We have room for them all in the squad over a season. But I suspect he will be moving on and that we will see a different type of forward coming in to give us other options. Just my guess, not based on any inside knowledge. Might be best for him and us.
