I am looking at the fixture list thinking that this season is not going to be a cakewalk. We got one point last season in 23 away games and lost at home to Oxford and Morecambe. I hope we can draw a line in the sand and start next season well (which will be vital), but I can't honestly say that I am looking at the likes of Fleetwood away, Peterborough away and Portsmouth away and thinking that we are going to get much out of them.
Agree Smiler a good start is vital for all concerned with the club but especially for Warney, first few games without a win and the knives will be out and we are on the slippery slope again.
Know what you mean looking at the fixture list but it doesn't scare me as much as last years!!
If we can get a couple of wins early doors and Warney can somehow coax the likes of JCH and Blackstock (yes I know!) coupled with the likes of Ball and whoever is going to sign there's no reason we can't be at least mid table, we certainly look as if we have the firepower if these other deals come off (Adeyemi would be a fab bonus), it's keeping them out at the other end though that was the problem last year. It's not as if a lot of the goals were down to better quality strikers it was just shocking defending at times. The positive is that we tightened up last few games whether that was because we knew we were going down I don't know
A fit, interested Blackstock would be a cut above 95% of strikers in League 1. I saw him play a good number of times for Forest in the Championship and he was a good class Championship striker. Ironically, his game was built around graft and physicality. It would take the mother of all about turns for him to come good for us, but football is a fickle game and a couple of early starts with goals could turn it. If he is still capable of doing it and if he harbours any ambition to make the most of what is left of his career it would still be in his interests and ours for him to come good. He could yet be a key player for us. Sadly, it looks like it just isn't going to happen and I doubt we will ever see him in our shirt again. Huge shame all round.
