Great to see us keep a clean sheet and win. It gives everyone a welcome lift, although we need to remember that Ipswich put out a weakened side (nine changes) and were very, very poor.
Nothing I saw today causes me to change my thoughts about next season. We have four or five players good enough to play in the top half of League 1. Ward and Adeyemi are two of them and neither of them will be here.
Morris might become a decent striker but for now he is very raw and for a big lad he doesn't hold the ball up well enough. I wouldn't fancy him leading the line as our first choice next season.
It is a bit worrying that Morris, Bray, Ajayi and Purrington are seemingly the young players we have identified to bring through. I haven't seen enough in any of them yet to suggest that they will flourish in League 1.
I am hoping that we are going to use the wages freed up by releasing or moving on the likes of Blackstock, Kelly, Broadfoot, and others, and getting whatever we still can for Ward to strengthen what we saw out there today, otherwise it might be another difficult season. The suggestion from Warne that 90% of what we have next season will be made up of what we have now is very worrying, especially if you take Adeyemi and Ward out of the picture.
Disagree about Ajeyi, with an experienced CB partner I think he will be an asset, but you're bang on about the others. Nice to get the win, JCH is looking stronger with every runout, hopefully he'll start at PNE as Ward looks like his season is over. Send Morris back to Norwich as he's proper useless but pleasing today as we managed to keep a clean sheet in spite of Fisher being in the team.
O'Donnell looking better. Ajayi good signing, Ball remember him rate him. Rest of defence picked today can't be playing next season. Vaulks next season 1st choice R back. No width. Taylor I'd get rid. Hopeless on the left, can't beat a man on the right. Morris wouldn't keep him. Adeyemi would be going all out to keep him. JCH get that new contract sorted. Forde did well when he came on.
Warney needs that assistant in. But judge him when he gets his squad for next season. Wants about 10 out, same in.
I wasn't saying Ajayi isn't a good signing. Just that we can't expect too much too soon.
Taylor tries hard. Can't fault him for that. Just a lack of quality and end product. I don't really get what Forde is about, but he apparently did well in L1 at Walsall. Maybe he just needs a confidence boost.
Warne needs about 10 out and 10 in. If that is how it goes then as long as he ships the right ones out and recruits well we have a chance.
I didn't like his appointment but am happy to give him a fair chance. I don't care who is in charge as long as we entertain and don't continue falling apart.
Personally I liked Bellaid and Ajayi as a CB pairing that could become good enough. Vaulks has to be RB or we have that clown throwing himself on the floor every two minutes - no one can surely rate Fisher. I thought Morris was Blackstock in disguise and Taylor should learn to pass instead of shooting every time and from everywhere. Adeyemi looked solid and keeper less scary. I'm hoping Bray was nervous and also that he hasn't finished growing because he makes Jerry Yates look beefy. JCH carrying too much timber but with a hard preseason he could be a solid performer for us next year. I'd sell Ward whilst we can still get something for him.
I must be the only one not too fussed about Adeyemi. Carrying the ball forward he is a threat but his game off the ball where he looks slow and ***bersome leaves a lot to be desired.Probably academic anyway as he'd have to take a huge pay cut(£14k a week at Cardiff?) but then again I don't see many Championship clubs rushing in to sign him. We need someone like Burton's Jackson Irvine in central midfield. As for record signing (!!!) Taylor. All he does is charge forward with the sole intention of having a shot irrespective of where colleagues may be. Heard Warne has had a bust up with Bellaid and is trying to off-load him which is a great pity because, like New Yorkshire, I think a pairing with Ajayi could be the way to go. I'll judge Warne on how brave he is with his retained list. Suspect the likes of Wood and Mattock will still be around next season I'm afraid.
Belaid looks abit fragile to me. Ajayi & Ball centre back pairing next season. Not sure about Wood, looked really slow against Ipswich. Mattock if we can get better release him, if not give him another year. Taylor can go, send Morris back.
Players to go into battle with next season: O'Donnell Vaulks Ajayi Ball Purrington Forde Smallwood Adeyemi Newell JCH D Ward. Bray get him on Guiness & Steak. Bryan Robson diet. Need around 10 in.
