I think you will find we don't have the funds to compete in the championship. You can escape a season or two but that's it. Supporters can winge, moan and shout but we have not the clout to buy enough quality players. Notts forest are signing loan players and contributing 30k a week to his wages and they are in a relegation fight. Wigan had a 7 million start the same as us BUT had a further 12 million parachute payment (their last one) and 7 million from player sales that's 19 million more than us and they are in a relegation battle. I could go on but I hope you all get the point. The chairman will talk us up of course he will that's part of his job.but at the end of the day we can't afford the upfront payment the wages and the agents fees (these are eye watering by the way, we are talking 10's of thousands even for loan players). I'm not sure what you want the club to do. They know the infrastructure needs sorting and have made a start but it's going to take a few years, best just relax, don't get too stressed and enjoy your Saturday afternoon, I am.
These are good points and Fliker is quite right in what he says, I think most are aware of our short comings. However after the Great Escape of last season TS talked the club up so much it raised expectation in most. Personally, I thought we were on the cusp of a new era for the Millers after listening to the rhetoric. I honestly believed that we would appoint a tried and tested manager and that we had money to spend on class players non of which transpired apart from the appointment of Jackett and the less said about that the better.
So in the end all the preseason upbeat PR never materialised and the ar5e kicking we got from Morecombe set the standard for the performances generally. We have seen a diabolical series of disaster after disaster leaving us in an embarrassing position of having the worst season I can remember (since 1959-60) .
Football is not an exact science, I understand that, but I feel a sense of betrayal in the manner of which this debacle of season sees us turned over week after week with almost little or no hope of making a fight of it . Simply points donors to the clubs above us. Can I enjoy seeing that on saturday afternoons? I'm sorry but I can't

I also think Fliker makes some good points, but I think you have hit the nail on the head Towdlad.
Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that we were always up against it because we aren't geared up on or off the pitch to compete with the big clubs in the Championship.
Look at some of what has unfolded though. Talk of the need for stability but six managers in a season and a half. The Rawson points deduction. The fiasco of the signing then release of Lenighan. Third rate facilities being highlighted in the national media. Jackett walking out within a month. Pre-season talk about aiming for the top half when the chief exec himself admits we were up against it even if we got everything 100% right. Blackstock in the papers because of rumours he was playing at being an agent (allegedly) when we've seen nothing useful from him where it really matters. Gazumped on a series of transfer targets. I'm sure I've probably missed a few things. Now we are nearing the end of our Championship foray averaging half a point per game with a minus 37 goal difference and a fitness coach in charge.
I can live with relegation. There is no shame in that of itself. And my kids and I will keep turning up as we do regardless. What really hurts me as a diehard supporter is that we must have come across to the football world as so bloody inept, to the point that it has become embarrassing to be a Miller. That's the problem.
Very well put Smiler, and when you catalogue the (factual?), events in that manner, how utterly amatuerish does it look?
I think we can all understand and agree that if we gave it a right good go and still went down nobody would bat an eyelid, we support and we go again. But when our down fall is created by ourselves it makes it much harder to swallow, especially when lessons haven't been learned
Once again Smiler I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with you. And no, its not about the fact we are going to be relegated; Brad has made that point often enough on here, we have never, ever, had the leadership to build on our infrequent success which is always invariably followed by disaster and disappointment. For me its the manner in which we have blundered through and this season would have happened last year if not for Warnock.
I was convinced the 'Warnock effect' had shown the way to move forward, had been a kick up the backside for the Chairman and the board, I thought the lessons had really been learned and that this season would be different and then……….. we appoint Stubbs.
Something is clearly inherently wrong in the club. Pringle, alluded to it, Halford ,Brown and Jackett, to name a few couldn't get away quick enough. Others don't want to come here at all. As TS has stated the fans don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but theres clearly plenty in the game who obviously do, and that is reflected on the park. We seem to have become the pariahs. The club to avoid, and I feel that shame.
