lets face the facts and discuss 2016 2017 and the league 1 in 2017 2018

we never had a chance this season due to the below

1) pathetic budget by the board and tony stewart

2) poor decision making for tony stewart

3) bad managerial appointment by tony stewart

4) no realistic chance of buying decent players in january

so on to 2017 2018 season league 1

increase in season tickets prices and another restructure of the squad as we will have the following players

gk o donnell ,price

cb woods belaid ball

rb fisher

lm newell or he could be sold

rm forde taylor

cm vaulks

cf jch yates blakcstock

frecks maybe ??

ademyemi we could buy ??

as mattock broadfoot kelly ward allan smallwood thorpe will have been sold  or not renewed contracts.

the question is will ts give the new manager but i think it will be warne, as no one good enough is going to work with a non league budget next season and be expected to get us promoted back  up again

Not being privy to what goes on behind closed doors I dont know what is going on. I get my main source of info from here.

One thing is for sure TS has made some flawed appointments. The mantra of "quality over quantity" has been just that, a mantra cos in reality the turnover of players since promotion has been horrendous, with most new comers no better than the ones we've shipped out and the odd decent one or two (on loan) we've failed to keep. We've missed out on potential good signings in order to keep within the budget, which many extol as a virtue, and that may be so, but look where we are for 'a'porth o' tar' as the saying goes. I'd suggest that the ship em in and tip em out, managers as well as players, has cost more than buying in 'quality' in the first instance. Its striking a fine balance and we've failed on that account. But there you go.

A spanking new stadium yes, financially stable yes but from a footballing point of view we're no better off than we were at Millmoor . Still little old Rotherham. But you cant have your cake and eat it I suppose.

i suppose we cant have our cake but will we remain financially stable if we struggle in league 1 lower attendances and heaven forbid drop to league 2

Correct, and there is a suspicion that we now have a poor reputation within the game and a club to be avoided. managers and players alike.

As Towdlad said further above we have probably wasted more money on trying to do things within budget.

Really hope this new head of recruitment bloke can put a proper scouting system together, instead of us getting journeymen who were good five years ago.

I'm not so sure TS would lose a lot - but I am not an expert on the finances at RUFC.

His holding company will either keep the ground and rent it to a new owner, or sell it on for a decent price.

We cannot have lost a packet on player transfers because we have sold a couple (Agard, Revell, Halford, Ward?) and the income from gate receipts and being in the Championship can't be too bad - we also went into the Championship with our L2 side without massive investment.

I'm not sure 'pathetic budget' is fair

The other 3 points though yes - on the face of it

Agree pretty much with the OP.

L1 is going to be very tough for us and I cant see anything but a mid table finish.

Unless there is a drastic reorganisation of the Club from top to bottom, League 2 beckons never mind success in League 1. I could name non-league outfits that are run better than Rotherham United is at present. We need a manager sooner rather than later. We need to see some semblance of a plan to consolidate the Club never mind take it forward. I fear our reputation in the game is rock bottom at the present time. No decent manager will touch us with a barge pole transfer targets will go anywhere rather than Rotherham United. That's if we genuinely have any transfer targets because on this front I fear we are being fed bullshine once again. I do not expect any player to join us in this transfer window unless it is some 30 something has been on loan. Someone nobody else will take because of their injury problems.
Wake up and smell the coffee folks, we are being taken for a ride, kept in the dark and fed manure just like mushrooms. Championship your having a laugh, First Division your having a laugh, except it's not funny it's tragic. By nature I'm not usually a pessimist but the way I feel at present Ill soon be reaching for the razor blades to slit my wrists. For God's sake Tony set about putting things right.

Not wanting to wish out lives away Ian, but I'd take that right now, plus a manager under contract who is starting to win more games than we lose by end of season 17/18 and a defence that can defend and get some clean sheets, with that  squad under contract not loans... given that, for the first time in 4 seasons, We'd look forward to the next ...... so roll on season 2018/19... smile

Funny thing is with warnes record for a full season we wouldn't be in the bottom 3, and that's with our current very limited squad. Wonder what he could do with a few additions in D1.

Broadfoot is under contract for another 18 months so he doesn't have to leave if he so chooses. Richard Wood is out of contract. Scott Allan is on loan so can be sent back at the end of the season.

Is the O/P suggesting that season ticket prices will be increased next season ? The club will have a large section of fans not renewing their season tickets, if the club did increase prices for a lower division they would be commiting Commercial suicide. The next appointment of manager is crucial, please no mistakes this time Tony.

Commercial suicide is no stranger to RUFC, The empty stadium units should be a giveaway. At the very least they could use one of them for a supporters bar, even if it is only used on matchdays it would provide much needed revenue.
Also, many clubs have things like six & ten game match tickets for people who can't commit to a ST because of work & other commitments, a "non starter" according to commercial dept staff when I put it to them but interestingly they gave no reason.
In my 40+ years as a Millers fan business a***en is an unknown concept to all at RUFC I'm afraid.

A supporters bar in the empty units sounds a good idea unfortunately at present Lindleys the caterers would take all the revenue from that bar. Lindleys do all the catering on non-match days as well.Maybe when the contract is up for renewal the club ought to look at taking the catering in house.

TS is in no rush to fill the units anytime soon, his priority will be to finish paying for the ground .

I think that last comment is the nub of the issue; what exactly are TS priorities? His rhetoric to us is that it's middle table in Championship then pushing on for EPL yet clearly its not. I think the club should just set out a realistic strategic plan rather than a load of stories flying around and TS himself making these unrealistic commitments in the media. As fans, if we know that we are brassic and enjoying the ride in the Championship while it lasts, then so be it, but the frustration comes from saying one thing and doing another.
