Even with almost certain relegation beckoning, if we play like that every week I'd be happy! Before D'Oliviera was rightly sent off (don't indulge a Glaswegian in a brawl on the ground!) we looked up for it and were perhaps the better side. 10 men is generally very difficult to play against but we did it with great application and energy and thoroughly deserved all three points.
Did I see evidence of Pollitt's arrival in Price's performance? Two or three good catches under pressure and one excellent punch!
The midfield looked hungry and worked immensely hard driven on by Smallwood who made his presence known in virtually every midfield challenge. Vaulx was impressive and Adeyemi had some good moments - particularly his goal. Not wishing to knock anyone but Joe Newell seems to be struggling to me. Today gave him a fantastic opportunity to run at Norwich, with more space than usual, but he just didn't seem to be at the races. Taylor is obviously bursting to make an impact and was full of running when he came on.
I thought the defence looked better than of late although Norwich's class opened us up easily at times. Fisher is still lacking confidence and his distribution is awful. However, to give him his due, he linked up well with Forde in the second half and they posed a decent threat down Norwich's left.
However, all plaudits go to Jerry Yates. Strong on the ball, good control and holding up the ball, may not win too many headers but gets off the ground unlike some that have gone before him and took a good strikers goal and was unlucky when he remained calm in the area and Ruddy made a fine save. He's got a low centre of gravity and he uses it really well. I've said it before but he reminds me very much of Aguero! Having lost his Grandad yesterday he was really emotional at the end and he deserved the rapturous applause that came his way.
Finally, well done to Warney. His record far exceeds anything put together by his two 'highly qualified' predecessors. You never know, if we put in a few more performances like today, he might get a taste for it and then, who knows.
Price I thought that, looked a keeper. Defence solid, would prefer Belaid to Broadfoot. Wood never put a foot wrong. Midfield 3 of Vaulks, Smallwood & Adeyemi works. Yates kept going all the game. Could do with a more physical striker in, if D Ward if still here play him on the left. Vaulks always rated him. Standout today.
For the second time this season i backed against us on my acca and we were the only team to let me down ! ( last time vs QPR) lost £207 ! Maybe i should do it every week now. Great result and much improved performance . 3 stand out players for me Tom and Jerry and Will ! Well done Warney for busting my coupon !
Thought Adeyemi was superb and the tactic of 5 across the middle was just what the game needed. Really happy for Yates but we need to get him down the channel more as he isn't ever gonna win many headers at his height. Great day though - we needed that.
great post, thank you. if we get relegated, better to have a team playing for the shirt and winning a few than what we saw under stubbs and milwall's manager... £2m for Ward please and then i'm looking fwd to next season already! UTM
Lost my voice with all the cheering, and I made an observation of note yesterday, only one player in the starting 11 was not ours and that told in the performance. Every man played for the shirt and when everything was expected to fall apart when they scored, they rallied around and that man adeyami scored!!! If there was one moment that sparked it all yesterday and that's warneys team sheet and the name yates was entered on it. A club legend was born, he led the line as if he had played there for many years. With a few more games under his belt he will be the ONE!!!! It's amazing how you feel the following day, realising Newcastle at their place might not be as daunting as we first feared.
Went, just watched highlights. Price got away with one. 1st H pushed ball out straight to there player whose shot hit our only man on the line. Apart from that faultless display from our keeper. Pollitt needs to work on him trying to push ball out to relative safety.
We had some chances 2nd H. Broady free header. Cross from the right, don't know how that didn't go in. Taylor header easily cleared off the line. Forde through at a tight angle, there keeper saved with his legs. At least we were making chances.
Pollit was not one too take a chance and reluctant to come of his line too catch. Its whether price has it in him or is he more suited to hugging his few yards and waiting for the ball?
