Spot on Len. Poor as we were yesterday we scored twice, hit the post and missed several gilt edged chances. We've played two home cup games against lower league sides, scored six goals and lost them both. It was truly frightening how slow we were at the back , how easy it was for Oxford to get at us and how easily they ran past us (with and without the ball). And with the best will in the world to Oxford, they weren't special. We have had a series of experienced but past their best defenders in the last couple of seasons and lack of pace and athleticism has been a constant theme. Take your pick from Broadfoot, Collins, Halford, Buxton, Wood and Kelly. Mattock is no sprinter either and he knocks off too often for my liking. Add to that the fact that we haven't had a dominant keeper since Martinez (Camp is a shot stopper but is a 'liner' and Price has you constantly on edge) and it is easy to see what the problems are. Belaid look the part to me - he has the pace to cover and he is comfortable on the ball. Why was he left out yesterday? We obviously need to rebuild and we need to do it from the back.
