The more I hear from Alan Stubbs, the more incredulous I become. Today he states that there was only one home game in which we were outplayed in the second half and that was Bristol. Apart from that game and some of the time against Brentford, we haven't been outplayed which tells him we're doing something right. Outplayed is an interesting adjective, how about the following descriptions instead? In the second half against Wolves we were decimated; against Morecombe we were embarrassed; against Brentford we were annihilated. Only against Forest did we come anywhere close to being on a par and most of us thought we had tactically turned the corner. However, once again at the next home game we reverted to type and, although we weren't outplayed before Cardiff scored, afterwards we were out-muscled, out-thought, out-desired, out-witted and more than anything, out-managed. The more I hear our manager deny the real reasons behind our dreadful decline, the more convinced I am that our great club is being unnecessarily dragged towards oblivion by an in denial apologist. Come on Tony, you don't really want to visit Peterborough and Millwall next season do you?!
It would actually be nice to hear him say things with a bit of depth, i.e. to show his knowledge, maybe give us an insight into what his thinking is and why - and despite us doing X,Y,Z and this and that in training, its just not clicking in yet but will do. That's how I'd play it. It might make most of fans realise what it is he's trying to achieve, because if we can see these things working in patches or on an increasing frequency level we can say yeah it's obviously having an effect and above all it will give him the time he needs?
These generalisations are even becoming boring for him, saying the same things over and over again.
I'm always giving an insight to my U11's parents what the ethos is, while yes its fun, they need to understand the pathway I'm constructing and why - the parents are paying for a service - to see their children develop as players & people. I explain things in a way that are simple to the soccer Mom's or a little bit more intricate to those Dads who know the game. It works, it's not rocket science - its just managing and communicating different groups of people and I'm sure his Pro License would have dealt with that
Could I just ask if there is a pattern of improvement did not see Forest or Blackburn games due to holidays, but on sat thought we created quite a few chances, are we getting better or worse??
We do create chances - until we score - then we sit back and let the opposition take control. So to answer your question, we're getting neither better nor worse - the tactics remain the same and so do the results.
I thought we were excellent in the first half on Saturday even though it was still 0-0. There was some crisp passing, we had loads of possession and we actually took the game to them. At half time I could not see Cardiff getting anything at all out of the game. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, after we went ahead the team sat back instead of carrying on doing what had obviously been working. I can only put this down to a lack of confidence rather than a Stubbs directive? In my opinion 118, there was an improvement but, it was in the first half and not the second, if you are going to play well in one half, make sure its the second, you will definitely get less booing that way!
I'm off the Huddersfield tonight, maybe on my own reading some of the post's on here and MM but, hey ho!
I have to say his interviews dont inspire confidence with me, but what he is like with the players? I can only think its the same judging from the results
fisher was advanced and the centre backs switched with the central midfielders to move the ball and create the extra man. At times in the first half we looked to be playing to a very clear plan and it worked well.
Is the problem that teams do give us a bit of respect for a while, then we score and the opposition have to change to a more attacking style and we eventually fold, same with 0-0 opposition think we can win this, but when we concede first we lose because we have no plan and cant change our style.Warnocks approach seemed to be defend well all over front to back frustrate and hit them on the quick break Stubbs plan seems to be to concede possesion and just try to defend our box, which allows opposition defenders to get forward and suddenly we are under siege in our box, clearly not working because of the goals we concede. Put two up front for a start and lets start defending in their box not ours, one attacking midfielder and one holding midfielder and two wide midfielders.play everybody of their kicking foot not out of position, play our experienced players.Get Broadfoot back asap and what the hell is wrong with Belaid weve hardly seen him.To Stubbs toughen up show the kind of character and resolve you had as a player, dont go down without a fight.
