article discussing impact of scrapimg emergency loans

makes me realise how much our club is up against.

Puts into perspective the whole sorry state of the transfer window we as Rotherham fans have endured...maybe, its a blessing we didnt sign Gregory...doesnt fit the bill for me at all, but thats realistically the only kind of targets we can go for...Blackstock and players making themselves free agents may become very popular and help a little.

It needed scrapping in my opinion - and so does the parachute payment system, or at the very least it needs amending.

The emergency loan system was abused by all and sundry. Smaller clubs obviously have to have smaller squads so the the emergency loan system allowed clubs to bring in an extra player if say their only left back got injured. What we saw in reality was clubs settling on their squads, realising they weren't good enough so brought in additional players. Steve Evans played this perfectly.

I understand the theory behind the parachute payments but for me if a high earner leaves the club then the parachute payment should reduce accordingly. Instead, what we have seen is a club get relegated from the premier league, sell all their top earners and have millions of pounds to do with what they like.

The loan system allowed the big clubs to sign loads of young players who will probably never play for them and then just farm them out while retaining ownership in case they turn out to be good. That will still happen to some extent. Don't Chelsea have loads out on loan even under the new system? On Saturday we have one of them and so do Bristol City. It needs looking at. Evans had to use loanees to bail himself out when a high proportion of his permanent signings turned out to be duds. Whilst Tavs, Lafferty and a few others really helped the cause he did also sign a few on loan who didn't really contribute much - Tubbs, Antony Wordsworth, Kelle Roos, John Swift to name a few. It was an expensive way to operate. He got results with it though. Parachute payments are a disgrace. All clubs have to do is make sure that they sign players on contracts that make provision in the event of relegation. The current system serves only the interests of the self preservation society that is the Premier League.

A bit unfair to Evans on reflection. Though he did turn a lot of players over, not every signing works out and at times because we went up the ladder quickly he might have had to plug a few gaps at short notice. I thought I would add that in the interests of balance.

Same as Oneaday. Tie it to wages. Clubs should be expected to offload accordingly and live within their means, its the price of relegation. It makes you ask what the real agenda here is from the FA, they are sleep walking our millions of fans to a 2 league elite with the rest semi-pro. It's glaringly obvious, football becomes more of a disgusting project each passing season

My first thought was that the players should get organised to protect themselves just as they did in the early 60's with regard to the £20 pw campaign; particularly the fringe players at clubs that may have to become part time. But I soon realised that the same forces are at work now in sport as in the rest of Society where those in a position of privilege with lottery win contracts, will care little for those further down the league. Millions for the few crumbs for the many
