Hopefully Blackstock will have enough in his legs to give us an hour (apparently he played pre-season). I think we should try him and Yates out as a front two - DW can replace Blackstock when he tires. I think we will see a reaction following the pasting at Barnsley and will predict an energetic 2-1 win for the Millers.
could do, but Id prefer Blackstock to come on later regardless of the score as Danny Ward definitely tires and probably less chance of an injury in the latter parts of the game as he will be fresh and others a little tired.
I would like to see yates get a start however stubbs fits him.
with Halford with Ward up front on his own with stubbs pushing his much vaunted evolutionary style of attacking and fluid defensive-no excuses now he has got rid of clearly our very best defensive midfielder (still cant believe it). Use ford and Taylor to supply the width and penetration...Allen behind and up and down (hes not too bad at this actually) with Vaulks, who desperately needs to get quicker/more switched on because at present I cant see what he offers...though he clearly has more in his locker.
Lets be honest though as Im not sure Im being tongue in cheek or not its got so confusing, but Bristol city will be quite open and looking to bag 3 goals against us...I for one cant see a win for us and therefore to set up too negatively at home makes no sense to me. Blackstock cant do more than a half I reckon so we are stuck with the same 11 V Barnsley....opps! yes, no smallwood to mop everything up, tackle, follow his man, not get caught in no mans land and link up the central park without running hopelessly with the ball and losing it...sorry, im might be unreasonably upset but still dont get it.
Im hopelessly of topic now but we should have hung on to smallwood and only get rid when the new boys show they can actually add more mobility and creativity to their defensive duties than smallwood who is quite exceptional at that.
scunny will be thinking we have a team of world beaters

We're not going to play with 2 strikers up front. We have to give defence some cover. Play Blackstock on his own up front, with D Ward on the left supporting him .

I respect your opinion Ian, but mine is that whilst Richie Smallwood never gave less than his best and should be thanked for all his efforts for the club, he definitely has his limitations as a footballer. I think Adeyemi was brought in to do the ball winning job in midfield and from what I have seen he is likely to be better at it and also perhaps more comfortable on the ball. Talking of Ball, don't forget that he can play there too. Smallwood is at an age where he needs to be playing, and it might be (we don't know) that he asked to go out on loan if he wasn't likely to be a regular starter.
I agree with T71. Warnock got results playing 451 using a target man (Best) with Derbyshire making a two whenever he could, and using Grant Wards pace on the break. I think Blackstock supported by Danny Ward and either Brown or Taylor might be the way to go for now. Yates and the other one of Brown/Taylor and Forde as options off the bench.
Hopefully with better footballers in midfield than we had last season and full backs who might (I hope) offer something going forward, we might be ok.
deffo not saying hes a shoe-in but when you look at the space he occupies it will be a hole someone has to fill...the slight increase in pace we are building will hopefully combine with the tactical awareness that richie had.
Im deffo with the warnock way and his way was so simply it was genius. This, I guess is part of the reason for the fans doubts about stubbs-he is going for broke and taking huge risks and does he both have the time (big if) and the awareness to pull it off at this level with our budget?
Im totally on the new set up and think that the could be the way to go as you and others suggest. I have become a fan of yates recently though and think hes a goalscorer...can stubbs see him in the side?
stubbs:
He clearly believes in himself and I think the fans reactions will galvanise him, and thats great coz we are at our best when we are testing others and stubbs and the team can use our passion to rise up and push on another 1 %.
One up front served Warnock well, home and away. As long as the one has people joining him in the right areas and at the right times it can work fine. It isn't necessarily negative, although it can help defensively as it enables you to plonk someone like Halford (not my preference) in front of an otherwise vulnerable back four to protect them. Hopeful that can also release full backs to get forward. Poor old Redfern got stick for playing one up front at home, but that is how we set up when we stuffed Bolton for example. He changed to 442 for the Charlton game and got stick because we got caught wide open on the break defensively. It's an age old dilemma. Perhaps we should play 452 ? Some of the refs we get might not notice.

... with some of the Refs we get that's how the opposition play
4-5-1 needs players who can play it - we don't have them. Basically sit defensive and break. Not my kind of footy to be honest.
I like Halford in front of the back four, he's the white Pablo.

My daughter thinks so Heman but it's in the eye of the beholder. In seriousness he came on at Barnsley admittedly only for ten or fifteen minutes but he has had a fortnight since then and at least one reported behind closed doors game so hopefully yes. I think he is a class act myself.
As smiler says, its not necessarily defensive, but the link up play at Barnsley was clueless, and that come's from the training ground. It's also not rocket science, Barnsley did it beautifully, were well drilled and had the confidence in their ability to even add a bit of player inventiveness - it was good & very painful to watch. The orders coming from above and whatever they are doing / not doing in training worries me more than the calibre of players we've acquired, who I don't think are a bad bunch as well as our more seasoned pro's. It shouldn't be this difficult but apparently it is, needs to be put right against City or the knives will well and truly be out that's for sure
no idea what to suggest as the team formation nothings worked yet on the field really
another loss or two and confidence will be shot
i hope we get something if we lose Sat-Wed i can see attendances dropping a by a few thousand too
Newcastle looks nearly a sell out now as expected
when we get a full fit first team out maybe we can get going at this rate it wont be long until we are playing catch up again
and dont have the manager players to get us out of the chit
Well I said all along that we were a month behind other teams. I think that the international break has done us a massive favour and allowed us to catch up.

thats a negative as one could be...justified though as most of the evidence backs you up...of course, what we dont know is what the near future holds but its doesnt look good at present if only compared to previous results and the way other clubs are both performing and recruiting.
realistically, I will take several defeats over the next dozen games, However, will Tony really buy into the long term development with stubbs at the helm if we get relegated or look nailed on? Thats the main issue here isnt it!
The noise suggests building and committing to a style and philosophy. Well, if he sacks the manager then its clearly a stupid plan. If he dont sack him then...so, we need realistic time scales. Anyone know what one of them is?
