So as fans/investors in our little club, do we have the right to demand more? Or should we be happy with returning in L1, which some would argue is our real level?

we hear a lot about ambition. I like to hear about ambition in the club, it warms the ****les of the heart of this supporter of 56 years standing. It fills me with pride and expectation, and I see crowd numbers akin to what we used to see in the 60's and am encouraged, but I do have to wonder where we are going. What are our options? Struggle on or accept L1?

Whilst I applaude financial stability, it aint going to get us anywhere anytime soon. I think TS has to make a big decision and invest; easier said than done yes, but he's a shrewd business man and understands probably better than most the risk in taking such a gamble. But I fear if we dont push the boat out then sooner or later ........... well I expect a half empty NYS is a pretty desolate place

We aint done bad have we!

The club has been steered as well as can be expected and more than expectations...right now we are doing well.

we havent kicked a ball yet and like every season we cant make a solid judgement until christmas. That I am afraid is the reality of the situation.

Of course one can make an interim judgement based on squad size and relative player levels but it would be only a gamble of an opinion...

talking about who we are I was interested to see my response to the end of season odds:

I notice Burton are about evens to go down. What embarrassed me was that I had to stop myself calling up the bank for a 10k loan and whacking it all on. I suspect that 99% of other fans would put us in the same place...and I really would wager that if I had it.

To be honest if you weren't a miller the 9/4 on us being relegated is a good price given where we are. I could never bet against us though - would be just wrong.

If we're not prepared to pay for quality we won't get quality, it's as simple as that really.
People keep saying we can't compete with this and that but does anybody really have any detailed information about the club's budget? Tony Stewart keeps saying we have a competitive budget so is he being economical with the truth?
If we really can't compete, even on a limited basis for a couple of quality players to improve the squad, then the club should stop saying otherwise because a lot of supporters are becoming seriously disillusioned now.
I suspect we'll keep fishing in that very small pond and will end up signing a number of players that nobody else really wants.
Unfortunately though, we won't be able to resort to the emergency loan system this season to get us out of trouble if things aren't working out.

yes, the club budget is online if you google...

our wages are next to rock bottom and out outlay on signing fees is rock bottom.

Ian, doesn't the information you are talking about refer to a previous season?

All Championship clubs have benefited from a significant increase in tv revenue this season and our chairman has stated on more than one occasion that we have a competitive budget and are prepared to push the boat out to get the right players.

Real quality doesn't come cheap and if we can't afford it we shouldn't pretend we can.

After all, there's no point walking into a Porsche showroom if you only have enough money to buy a Ford Fiesta.
