Grant Ward to Ipswich now a done deal. Thought to be around £600k initial fee, possibly rising to £700k-plus with add-ons. #rufc #starlive

this maybe down to the lad not wanting to relocate

Instead of spending £1.5m on a striker who scored 9 goals when last in championship we could have spent £700k on Grant Ward and used the rest for his wages.

This pre season has been one sick joke after another. If I hadn't already bought a season ticket I wouldn't be going. Aiming for top 10 my arse.

Good luck to Grant Ward. I am sure all of us wish him well. I wouldn't have minded if he had come back on loan but equally am not too upset about it him not doing. I wouldn't have wanted us to pay that sort of money for him.

700k and then compete with Ipswich for wages is just not possible for us.

besides we cant justify spending that on a midfielder.

of course we feel bonded to him because we really saw him come on in leaps and bounds and prove to be one of the most positive players we have but reality check is really needed. We cannot put 700k plus beat Ipswich wages on a midfielder when we still need a striker...

something else missing from the pre season discussions is that Stubbs is a defensive coach. He wants ball retention and a very strong focus on limiting goals conceded.

That's it then - grind out Championship safety with 46 points and a 0 goal difference. None scored, none let in.

No

If we're not prepared to pay for quality we won't get quality, it's as simple as that really.
People keep saying we can't compete with this and that but does anybody really have any detailed information about the club's budget? Tony Stewart keeps saying we have a competitive budget so is he being economical with the truth?
If we really can't compete, even on a limited basis for a couple of quality players to improve the squad, then the club should stop saying otherwise because a lot of supporters are becoming seriously disillusioned now.
I suspect we'll keep fishing in that very small pond and will end up signing a number of players that nobody else really wants.
Unfortunately though, we won't be able to resort to the emergency loan system this season to get us out of trouble if things aren't working out.

After 3 years of the same talk from the club at the beginning of each Championship season, and the subsequent survival fight, then what you say Mellow is very true.

I can sense that many are beginning to feel that we've been had. Yes we want Championship football, the stadium needs and deserves Championship football, but as has already been mentioned on several threads before, we are if nothing realists. We know we're a little fish in a big pond and that we will struggle for survival. But every year there is the talk that this year will be different.

This year we've had a tad more bait to hook in more season ticket holders with big talk of Championship managers, big money signings et al which thus far has not materialised. We can only wait and see, but unless the words equate to the actions on the field then I worry we will lose those few extra season ticket holders and more, through frustration and jeering cynicism, which is, I am afraid, many paying followers of RUFC.

yes, the club budget is online if you google...

our wages are next to rock bottom and out outlay on signing fees is rock bottom.

im just fed up with the club talking pr and supporters who moan and moan

we are a small club in a big league and we have to face facts that we will grow slowly

although we pay to go in and expect results that is our involvement full stop everything else is controlled by the clubs players and their agents
