Uninspiring for me, not really been a huge success post hoof ball period at Bolton. Hope he can avoid getting starstruck by our big names and play in form players in their rightful positions - or leave them at home.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha, That's a brilliant appointment. He will drag English football back to the dark ages at the speed of light. To be honest Rooney and those other chumps have got the manager they deserve.
A 3rd rate manager for a 3rd rate footballing nation.

I think you re all being a bit harsh on Allardyce. He is a good manager who has had success without having millions to spend. We've had the high paid so called world class foreign managers to little effect, we've had the safe pair of hands appointments time and again that leads to cautious, unattractive teams thta don't win competitions. Allardyce is exactly the sort of man who can shake things up, sort out the pampered elites and put some fire back in to the belly of the England team. I'm all for giving him a fair crack of the whip
I agree S8M. My first comment wasn't derogatory towards Sam, it was a honest assessment of what we need to rejuvenate a struggling international team. Sam's selection should appeal to all those who thought 'real' British managers in the past should have been given a shot at the job such as Cough and Rednapp.
There's one thing for sure, he won't put up with any pretentious players, and those players will definitely know what their job will be on the pitch, no more pretending we're as good as Spain and trying to play that way, he'll play the players to their strengths, in my opinion.
I've already seen the film and he didn't do all that well in that in his guise as Mike Basset England Manager! His tenure should be a bit different to previous ones, certainly made me laugh!
We have tried other approaches and they haven't worked. Martin O'Neill - who knows all about direct football (and I really like the bloke so don't mean that as a criticism) - has done better with the Republic than his allegedly more sophisticated predecessor Trappatoni. International managers get so little time to work with their players that to be honest I don't know how much difference a 'world class coach' can make. They have to work with what they have in very short bursts. They can't make silk purses out of sows ears. Their job as I see it is to handle the pressure, handle the media, be tactically astute and get the best team spirit they can out of a bunch of highly paid players assembled from a handful of different clubs. For me he is as good an option as we have.
No nonsense approach & I think the best of what this country has to offer need it to climb down off their high horses, realise they aren't all that and just happen to play in one of the most financially successful leagues in the world.
The thing is, at grass roots its only just begun to change and will take years to filter through. The academies are single handed destroying our youth prospects at the moment, kids are being pushed into development centre's and academies at far too young an age. To make it worse, the powerhouses of the PL are setting up soccer schools in crazy areas of the country - like here for example. We don't want them, we don't need them - grassroots footy is massive in our city & kids just want to play with their mates. Give grassroots more money, give us pitch space, allow us to expand, allow us to develop coaches & referees and it will impact the pool of players available. Kids should not be allowed near an academy until at least 14 years of age - not 8 & 9!
