Reality check

lets get real. We arnt going to sign the 3 million pound center forward ( Bristol city have just done that) we will have a bottom two budget and that's where we will finish perhaps we may escape one more season but we will go down because we have no investment in the team. Try for the top 10 forget it, yes we can build team spirit do a Leicester, Iceland, Wales. But these teams will do it for an odd season it's the top teams who invest that challenge on a regular basis, that's not us we can't compete at this level so enjoy it we have one maybe two seasons left then it's back home to where our budget belongs. sorry if this sounds negative but it's just how it is,we haven't got the money and that's it. Keep smiling and UTM

Just treat the Championship as a mini-league. 12th down to bottom place. We may just surprise a few teams this season.

Hate to sound positive but I reckon we will be ok this coming season.

Not sure what the 2016-2017 budget is currently.

I'm sure someone will enlighten me.

Two more seasons left in the Championship?

We may be in for a surprise over the next two seasons.

Must admit not feeling too positive at the moment. just need to go with the flow, though it would ben ice to understand what TS perspective is.

I'm nether negative nor positive, more pragmatic. Thats why it annoys me when the club come out with big talk re signings 'Quality over quantity', ground expansion, managers with Championship experience, etc etc etc. We all know its BS because we know the situation, so why beef it up only to let let us down. The trouble is , since we moved to NYS the expectation is always there.

And with the stadium upgrades they've done, and that huge stand being completed, Ashton Gate is now as big as Molineux. Everything is geared up for them to be a top 10 Championship side.

When you compare our little town to Bristol, our competition for new supporters, our existing and historical fan base and our stadium / corporate etc . For anyone to even suggest getting towards being a top 10 club (comparable to City) is utterly laughable. Its delusion on the grandest scale. As Tiger said bottom (might even be 6 this year), mini league & we need to fight to sustain that for as long as we can to fund the upgrading of the infrastructure of the club. We're in a damn site better place doing that 4th bottom of the Champ every year than L1.

However me being the ever optimistic pessimist - I really do believe this season will be a bridge too far. The revenue increases are irrelevant - the change of the loan system is really going to hurt us

I like your positivity but could you explain why you think we will be OK.

I see a few posts like this saying we will be ok but no one seems to say why.

Do you think the current squad is good enough? ( I don't )

Do you really think we will sign quality players?  ( I don't )

Sooner rather than later we will not win this mini league and down we will go. Barnsley did exactly the same for a few seasons until they eventually went down.

Until we begin player recruitment, none of us can really predict what will happen. I'm surprised though that we haven't brought a few more in at this stage especially as the squad, or what's left of it, are jetting off to Poland this weekend!

Still I think that perhaps we were all used to Steve Evans bringing in twenty players at this stage of the close season when he was manager!

Crookadile and others, I am always positive it's just the sort of person I am.

Do I think the current squad is good enough ? No it isn't.

Do I think we will sign quality players ? We may have to settle for just the one. I prefer the younger players rather than journeymen after a last payday. Let's give Stubbs the benefit of doubt and give him a chance. Expecting an improved start to the season and one things for sure every game will be a battle for points. Stand by what I said, we may just surprise a few teams. All I ask is the players give 100% we can ask no more.

Latest rumour I've seen is we're supposed to after Hibs striker Jason ***mings !! I can see why, known to the manager and bagged 25 goals last season.......the clock is ticking £££££££££££

Unfortunately as far as player recruitment goes, we are bottom feeders. While the majority of Championship clubs are tucking into their seafood platter, we're left with the plankton. Tony & Stubbs might be good at the soundbites "top 10" "Premier League ambitions" etc etc, we all know in our heart of hearts that is complete *******s & 21st place is our only realistic ambition unless Tony can attract some SERIOUS investment in both the playing staff & the club infrastructure.

I think a few more signings and we might cheer up a bit.. it's tough when you see other teams taking the risks that we will never take. We need a few more players to make a team, that is clear and it will happen, it's just a matter of if they are good enough.

My biggest hope is that our new manager can motivate the team and have enough tactical ability to re-create what Warnock did. If we could somehow keep away from the drop zone for most of the season, and clear of it by April, it would feel so much better to be a Miller.

I think we need to do that before that Chairman would have the belief to risk a bit more to challenge for a top 10 place because I think he has a mentality that is constantly thinking about if we drop down, what would the finances look like.. But, The carrot of a single season in the Premiership must be on his mind...

If you look at the Owls, they have a massive fan base compared to us, but team-wise I'd suggest not much different, and it only took a few decent players, none multi £million, to go from a bottom half team to having a shot at the playoffs - that to most of us, given the resources, would suggest it would be worth a small gamble - but it's all in TS's hands financially and having a Warnock-like capable manager, which I hope Stubbs will be.

Looking fwd to first Home game, UTM.

I'm quietly confident in Stubby although he wasn't what was promised; and since a ball hasn't been kicked yet we cant judge until the big kick off.

As for the club, we all know it needs investment and I expect most would be investors are reluctant being as we are a little fish in a big pond, but we'll never get to be a big fish without the investment. The old chicken and egg thing; but I think we're at a watershed moment with the club and someone is going to have to be brave and take a leap of faith sometime pretty soon.

I think Wednesday invested heavily last year, Forestieri cost them £3m for a start so it's not right to say they reached the playoffs on a modest investment - for us that would be bank breaking investment. Our record signing is a tenth of that. Like others, I'd rather us be more realistic and not keep coming out with statements about the premiership.

pre season starting got Sunderland tickets. might nip to donny see what NUFC look like
The Championship if we can get off to a decent start it might help a little, we don't want a day one 1-4 defeat again
i hope we can battle again to stay up, i cant think of who might be below us this year
i have no idea how we will line up this year JCH Cant get a look in recently, yet the rumour was a £2m bid was put in for him
RUFC Manager merry go round in the last 12 months we need to settle that situation down. BUT If we look like going down will we need another manager again.

got to say loving RUFC the championship and the fight to stay up.
