We seem to be only a few weeks from the first game and our major announcements are the retention of our own players. Do we actually have a squad at the moment? With Best & Derbyshire gone we are without the pairing used in The Great Escape and I can't see any new faces, other than us being linked with Bale and Suarez etc to keep us happy.
I'm no football manager but I'd want a few weeks to work with my squad to establish the formation and tactics and relationships.
Three articles about Frecklington is a bit worrying and shows our lack of real news (he was already with us for 16/17).
Someone please reassure me on this!
Hopefully we will be injury free. We have no reserve goalkeeper and would only have Belaid, JCH, Yates and a couple of kids on the bench.
That probably hasn't helped has it NY?
On a serious note, I don't think we are alone by any means and I am confident there will be additions soon. we have freed up plenty from the wage bill we were carrying and I am hoping for some decent quality additions. There is some quality in there already, but I would like to think that some of those listed in my eleven above would not be in the starting eleven come day one.
Not that different Ian. Much the core of last season bar Derbyshire and Best at the end. All that's gone are the players who didn't get a game, what we need are players better than what we have then we would have a good bench. Patience is the key.
Things will start to happen over the next week and just before the season starts,i think most of our fans got used to big stevie bringing 12 plus players in early doors and then shipping most of them back out weeks or months later.
As flicker says Patience is the key
It's July though and we must surely be working on strategy and approach and formation. This team ain't gonna cut it - I was at Hull and we were crucified. Still need a playmaker and a recognised striker at least. A bit of pace at the back too, but midfield and striker most if we have limited funds.
Ex Newcastle CB Ryan Taylor (not that one) is on trial with us & will be going on the tour of Poland.
Ryan Taylor ended up at Hull City, just recently been released. He fits our criteria, almost 32yrs of age and serious injuries throughout his career. Metatarsal, broken leg, torn cruciate. He was out of football for more than 2yrs and to be fair the injuries are not his fault.
Seen him a couple of times when he played for Wigan and Newcastle and seen him score some really good free kicks. Good luck to him if it's true he's on trial when we play in Poland.
Leicester won the league with the smallest circulation of players. OK, it's probably a one off, but we're going to need something on a similar scale just to stay up this season. We still do have a few Champ quality players, albeit aging we do need 5 or 6 quality additions which means money needs to be spent. Worrying though that we can't even get top L1 players in at the minute but a lot can happen in 6 weeks!
Breaking news...Remainers tell Brexiters to stop being so ******* stupid as it will never happen as they are a small fish in the North sea and no one will want to do business with us.
It will be a disaster, they say..., and probably lead to the destruction of civilisation and WW3.
I admire a few people attempting to turn a negative into a positive but i prefer realism.
Its a fu***** disastrous situation...near to season start and nowhere near having a Championship team.
have we or have we not heard it all before?..record offers blah blah blah
Offering peanuts for players and then offering the players a bag of crisps just won't work at this level.
its clear that nobody really wants to come to us except a few rejects or players with chronic groin strains.
get real!...Top 10 my ar@@
Stop being in denial...TS announces next..ERRRRM we have just missed out on.....well...on about everybody actually!
Anyone want to come to Rotherham?......Insert your own answer!
Now thats a shame for us all but it is reality not denial

I must disagree with your sentiment Kempo.
It is clear from a number of confirmed stories that we are trying very hard to get some younger, talented players into the club and are offering competitive money.
The lad Forde from Walsall is neither a has been nor a crock, and we weren't the only club interested in him.
The way of things is that clubs, players and agents will weigh up options and that as a general rule players worth getting in will sign closer to the end of the transfer window than the beginning of it. Or perhaps you preferred the Steve Evans approach of getting all your business done really early which seemed to me to involve recruiting players who were in some cases happy to sign on the dotted line for anyone daft enough to offer them a deal.
All indications are that we are pushing the boat out further this summer than we have before.
We all like the thrill of new signings coming in, but it isn't an easy process. Have a bit of patience and a bit of faith that the people in charge will do all that they can without putting the future of the club at risk. It remains to be seen how we will do next season, but clearly we are trying our best to be competitive. These are good times to be a Millers supporter - relax, enjoy it and get behind them.
Voice of reason again Smiler and you are of course correct. I'm quietly confident tho a tad anxious at the moment waiting for the Gregory/Bradshaw situation to be finalised.
Many of us have been saying for long enough, what we need is to nurture young up and coming talent, with a blend of experience and TS is apparently woken up to the reality of the cost of staying in the Championship, against the cost of dropping out of it.
I'm not confident either New Yorkshire.
I was quite optimistic that we really were going for quality rather than quantity this time but the whole thing seems to be turning to dust.
Our chairman is once again making positive noises but, as usual, there is no end product.
It's only about 3 weeks to the start of the season and we haven't got anything resembling a squad so I hope there is a robust Plan B.
I am concerned that, despite all the talk of "big money signings" we will end up with a bunch of players that nobody else wants.
I really hope I'm wrong though. UTM.
It amuses me somewhat that people remain confident and I do wonder on what evidence do they base their confidence?
So close to the start without a semblance of a squad does not promote confidence to me.
smiler is a good poster but on what does he base his assertion that we are offering competitive money?
I am not blaming the club because if we've got nowt we've got nowt but I am trying to be realistic and this optimism seems to be blind faith.
History shows that at this level we are clearly not competitive and Championship standard players will choose someone else if the opportunity is there.
The club seem to have no ambition to get in investment or maybe a buyer and this is where the problem lies.
Keep quoting Leicester does nothing to help our position....We are not Leicester!
Obviously I hope I am wrong and we win the league and I will thoroughly enjoy my humble pie but the truth is that things look very bad and very soon we will have to hit the panic button.
From where I am viewing things talking about a top ten position is a total delusion.
Going to Poland for a so called tour is a major red flag that people should heed...Who on here would pick Poland?..Please step forward!
No matter what the club tries to do to make it more attractive to other players it's still stuck with the unsavoury facts about Rotherham as a place. A place to live in, no culture, locked into the 1979s and famous for child abuse by Asians.
Like asking Usain Bolt to run the 100 metres carrying a sack of spuds.
