We should have let both of them go. Kelly must be laughing all the way to the bank after being offered a 2 year deal at his age.
As for Broadfoot there is plenty to admire but do we really want to hang on to players who have been suspended from playing for the Sectarian abuse of a fellow pro?
At last some news, & it's good!!!
There has been 16 transfers involving EFL clubs today & once again, we've done nowt. I'm probably used to SE's scattergun summers but we really need to start recruiting and soon!!!
A bit rude about Broadfoot TTB, he did a good job for us last season, no reason to suspect he wont make the same stirling effort this year.
As regards the sectarian abuse, he served a 10 match ban and paid the penalty. There also remains doubt in some quarters as to whether what he is supposed to have said could be construed as sectarian abuse.
At what point calling someone a name does it become abuse? I'd suggest that every time we yell at the linesman, ref or an opposing player and call them something like a 'f*****' cheating w*****' for example, then that is abuse of which 99.99% of us are guilty. So I find your final point in your post TTB, rather prejudicial and could therefore be viewed as offensive
If there is a Mrs TTB, then she has my deepest sympathy. It seems that either he is extremely depressed, and cannot see the bright side of life, or he is on a perpetual wind up. Think both players can do a job for us, so pleased they are staying. By the way TTB, how exactly could Stubbs cash in on them?
Full backs must be good defenders first and foremost but in the modern game they are so often the 'out ball' that ideally they need to be able to play and attack. Kelly is a good defender but doesn't look a natural going the other way. I like him but see him potentially as a centre back more than a right back but he can do a job at either. Broadfoot has become a cult figure and seems to be a leader. Unless he discovers a yard of speed from somewhere he will always be vulnerable to pace but otherwise he is solid. I am pleased with both signings. I too am interested to know how we could have 'cashed in' on thirty odd year old players who were out of contract.
