Chesterfield Sign Ched Evans

Somebody was going to do it, and it turns out its Chezzy.

Criminally guilty or not, he will emerge from this whole saga with zero credit.

We as a club have, as we all know, made similar decisions in the past.  At least it isn't us on this occasion.  When I was told a local team had signed him I must admit I feared the worst.

Some things are more important than whether a bloke is a good goalscorer or not.

You are right "somethings are more important" than if a players scores a goal or not. Things like:

Making sure innocent people are not locked up.

Making sure the judicial system is not influenced by twitter mobs.

Making sure we trust the judicial process.

Making sure innocent people  IF they are found to be  wrongly convicted are allowed to work again in their chosen profession.

I agree

It will be all anguish until he scores a couple of goals then all will be well.

The vast majority of those baying for blood will never have been to a football game.

Morals come in here. Rape or not taking a drunk girl back to your hotel room and sharing here with your mate no thank you not the type of person I want at my football club.

She wasn't drunk according to the judge. Capable of consent, that's why the other guy got off.

Be interesting to see what the retrial comes up with.

You make some reasonable points TTB.

It is undeniably important that we trust the judicial process and that all reasonable precautions are in place to avoid miscarriages of justice.

It is also important that mob rule on social media does not influence the judicial process.  Something that both the pro and anti Evans camps would have done well to remember.

As for your final point, even without a conviction (and I make no comment on whether he should or shouldn't be convicted - a jury will decide that) clubs are entitled not to employ someone just as players are entitled to seek work.

Okay following a bloke after he's had his fun, having a **** while your brothers film it and then legging it on a fire escape. No it's not punch and Judy, it's Ched the sicko Evans.

Guilty or not guilty of rape he's still weird.
