If (big if) we landed Stokes that for me would signal a serious shift in the quality of players we will get with this manager...

But Stubbs is taking lessons from the Evans school of transfers. That's right, shout it from the rooftops and someone nips in with a better offer.

Would Stokes make a real impact in the English Championship? It's early days yet.

I'm not too convinced by his pedigree.

Perhaps it would be a step up for us but I'm not so sure given the dominance of celtic and then they let him go and he plays 16 rimes in a very poor league generally and scores 9 goals.

Big question for me is whether our new gaffer understands the quality in the English championship. Let's be honest , it took  most of us by surprise that first season and clearly neither Redders or SE truly got a handle on it. Only Warnock showed a real grasp of this league  by the way he set the team up and brought in one or two that made a difference.

Hence the convincing and encouraging talk of appointing a manager with Championship experience after Warnock showed the way..........but it didn't happen.

Thats not to say our new manager wont have the understanding of the Championship that you refer to. He hasn't signed anyone yet, let alone kicked a ball, so I'm not being judgmental. If anything the double speak from TS is the problem for me, publicly stating we are going for this, that and the other, then does something completely different. Thats where I get my doubts from.

I'm quietly confident in Stubbs but time will tell

I would not get too hung up on AS's lack of Championship experience. It was not so long ago he was playing in the Premiership so will recognise a "player" when he sees one.

I quite like the type of footballer we are being associated with, it possibly shows the style of play AS is thinking of adopting, fast, attacking and hopefully, entertaining. This style may also suit a number of players we already have at the club who are in the young, hungry and exciting category (Newell, Ward, JCH)? Added to the experience we already have (Frecks, Halford, Smallwood) plus the four in contract talks, it is going to be very interesting!!

T'owd gotta agree, just one other thing, Stokes now released by Celtic so its all down to how much we can pay him

Why don't we just announce a player after we have signed him? Just seems like we fire up the 'sunshine pump' to keep the fans happy with a string of 'AS shows interest in...' stories. In truth we just get frustrated that they don't arrive - it's already June so we need to start doing some business - presumably NW left a shopping list too?

My thoughts exactly. Deflate the "sunshine pump" & actually start doing summat!!! Worrying lack of activity, mind you Evans would have brought in a full team of numpties by the second week of June.

As per my first reply, I think if he gets Stokes it would be a significant step forward, not so much the player (although I do rate him having watched him a lot up here), but more about us being able to actually land a player we have shown an interest in. My fear (if I'm honest my assumption) is that the lack of activity, and the reason we won't get Stokes is that Stubbs will face the same issue as Evans and Redfearn i.e we cannot offer enough dosh to attract anything except left overs. We could get lucky with a few, but unless TS backs Stubbs with decent Championship wages, we won't get out of the relegation fight... Let's face it, if TS had said to Warnock 'here's £10M to build up the team' Warnock would still be here....

I sincerely hope my assumption is wrong... UTM

I don't see why everyone thinks we can't get him. I think TS knows he's gonna have to put more in Or we will just end up struggling again.
