No he is not. He is competent and a great pro and he did well last season but if we want to make incremental improvements, Woody and Broady have to go.
Disagree. I'd keep them. We only have enough money for 3-4 QUALITY signings and 2 center backs out of four signings are not what we need. Left back 2 wingers and centre mid for me. We would all love new players all over as per mr Evans but unless you buy more average players hoping to get a gem it won't work. We would all love a 20+ goal a year striker. We can't afford a proven one. So keep best, Derbyshire, ward and jch. Get a strong creative midfield and build. I'd also retain Kelly as cover for the defence. This building a team on our budget will take years.
I was one of those who thought for 18 months he deserved a go when it seemed he was frozen out. I think he did well and bottom line he played in a lot of games when we won and kept clean sheets. He didn't do a lot wrong so what follows seems harsh. My worry is this. We were so short of pace at the back that we had to sacrifice attacking options and park Halford in front as an out and out defensive screen - almost a third centre back. I don't see that as the future if we are going to improve. I don't think Broadfoot and Wood together is the answer. Of the two I prefer Kirk. Is Wood worth a deal? Probably not as a starter, but yes as cover - but would he be content just to be a squad player again?
