Referees need help. In Ice hockey there are 3 officials - in football, now a game that in patches can be just as quick on a pitch 3 times as big there is 1. The referees assistant is an advisor, they have no capacity to make decisions on their own. Unbeknownst to many its the referee that gives offside. 2 refs are required in football and the horrendous replaying and close ups regurgitated from every conceivable angle and slowed down has to stop. The referees are better than they ever have been. The course structure and content is better - what has changed dramatically is the speed of game, too many unsporting players, and the ever increasing media intrusion. Unfortunately FIFA, UEFA and FA refuse to stand up to what's needed. A UEFA A license coach told me recently - wanna make money out of football?
