I do think we should get someone lined up pretty soon, we need to sort out who will be staying PDQ. For example the guys on 1 year contracts and the likes of G Ward, can we get him on loan for another season etc. I'd be horrified to have the same fiasco as last year. The squad are playing as a team at last we need to make the most of that and try to ensure we can carry that over to next season and hit the ground running. Fingers crossed Warnock will give us another year
I agree Towdlad. There is a lot of work to do with the playing squad in the close season. We actually have quite a big squad and a lot of ageing players. I am not saying that many of them couldn't do a good job next season, but there are a lot of decisions to be made and whoever is going to be the boss will need to get started as soon as this season is done and in fact ideally as soon as we know for certain which division we are going to be in.
That's the challenge towdlad. Can we keep the best of this squad and add quality.
It starts with the board.
It continues with the manager and support staff.
Then it's up to the players.
Cash-what's the truth about our budget?
Motivation-from the top
Skill-the right players in the correct positions
Heart-players with passion.
Practical questions are all about recruitment. What went wrong the last 2 seasons and what was good?
Who will sign a new deal and who is contracted? I'm sure this will come down to personal cir***stances. Overall it seems to me the manager and backroom sraff are the key appointments. Obvious? Yes! Who would we trust? It's never obvious until we see the result on the pitch.
A good chairman knows when it's not working quicker than a bad chairman.
Redfern: The signs were obvious about 10 games before he went. I posted very strong views at the time.
Andy scott: ditto.
Ronnie: could have persevered but; Evans, was the correct choice but he made huge mistakes in his second season and it took him wayyyyy to long to settle into the championship-not really up to it. So, we as fans should now have a good idea of the qualities needed in a chairman and manager. If we then turn our attention to the kind of player needed this to starts to become very obvious. Likewise, formations and tactics speak for themselves. Let's hope we build on the wisdom and fortune of the last few seasons and take advantage of that with clear informed and focused decisions from TS down. And crucially , if it ain't working fix it quickly.
We don't have the luxury of being so good we can afford to be awful.
i would imagine if TS can not convince Warnock to carry on that Blackwell will take the hot seat with Warnock going upstairs in a advisory role/director of football.
if tony is a man of his word and he wasnts premiership then he has to convince neil that there is no need to change the working arrangement he has and thus carry on
get blackbwell and jepson on board get it sorted when we are safe which i believe will be after the huddersfield match
the squad needs fresh blood and we need to buy players not rely on free contracts some dont always work

I think this is the combination I would like to see Slider. Its proven successful so far for two main reasons in my view, that is:
Experience. With respect to our last two managers neither had the experience at Championship level either tactically or from a man management perspective to stablise the club in this league never mind take it forward.
Attitude. There is so much pressure on managers these days to be successful I often think the game is sacrificed for the result, in other words the element of risk taking is being lost preventing players from trying things that they do on the training ground during a game in case it doesn't pay off. Warnock is not really under any pressure, he has nothing to lose, his track record speaks for itself. For him there is no pressure, its just a game. His attitude is 'Go out there and play but enjoy it' is giving the players their head, they are enjoying it and loving the experience - and arn't we all.
Both Evans and Redfearn blamed the players. both said they were not good enough, thats hardly going to do anything for morale. Evans panicked with his huge turnover of players and didnt give players time to settle in or played them out of positon. Redfearn had the double whammy of trying to pick up the pieces and trying to build for the future at the same time, I think he was on a hiding to nothing and failed.
On that basis alone I would like to see TS approach Warnock and Blackwell with some sort of package to help stablise the club in this division.

extend contract to best and thomas doyley also try and sign g ward on another season loan or permanent deal
players to go green collins buxton ledesma
query jch go or stay
Players to keep Camp Broadfoot Wood Mattock Smallwood Belaid Halford D Ward Newell Frecks Yates
Players not sure about Kelly Thorpe Derbyshire Best JCH
Players to go Kenny Cairns Buxton Richardson Facey Doyley Collins Green Burke Shinnie Ledesma Thomas Becchio
Defo try & keep G Ward
Thomas & Doyley were brought to bolster the squad when budget had gone. Now increased budget for next season need not young players but younger players with some league experience.

agreee with most but i know derbs has had an off season but still think if we keep the current managment team next season there could be a lot more goals in him

agree with all that including Derbyshire. He is a good player and a very good striker playing in a difficult set up. we would regret not offering him another good deal. He always is 100% no matter what or who is in charge.
I don't think we could attract Bruce because he seems to have a good reputation and could get big money at bigger clubs, and to be honest I wouldn't want him. I quite like him as an individual but his teams tend to be a bit dull to be honest. If we are working on the basis we might need to start afresh without the current set up, I wouldn't mind Mick Mc Carthy. I get the impression he won't be at Ipswich next season, and I think he would be a good fit with us. Local bloke, experienced, straight talking, up and at em style, good track record. Not much not to like about him.
Seems me an' thee are on the same wave length on most things football Smiler. I was only saying to Towdlass yesterday when she asked about the next Rotherham manager that I thought Mc Carthy would fit the bill, just as her eyes began to glaze over.
Shes attending her first ever football match with me on Sat after 30 odd years of wedded bliss, whether she'll attend a second time remains to be seen.........watch this space
