With spirit like that - you don't go down

Contrast to Villa who played earlier in the afternoon, abject, devoid of urgency and effort and completely missing self belief.

Us - wow, we're not the sharpest knives in the kitchen but my word each and everyone fighting for the cause.  We might not have the pretty football, we might need to play ugly, it might be basic and good grief do we ride our luck time and again but each and every one of those footballers deserves a championship wage next season.

The neutral will say we probably deserved a draw today, but right now its not about what's deserved its what you get at 5pm.

I've seen Leeds enough this season to know they play lovely football, they have some clever moving players but get to the final 3rd and they're clueless.  If they had a Silvestri - they'd be in the play offs.

After becoming a qualified FA coach a couple of weeks ago, my perception on many things have changed drastically in football, one of which is the role of a referee.

Today, Kevin Friend should hang his head in shame, likewise his assistant on the family stand side.  Mistakes are to be expected, but the frequency of them and the game changing aspect of them was bordering on criminal. What was worse is despite being 'the boss', how he let himself be manipulated by those cheating gob shyte Italians at every opportunity. I was astounded by his performance - this bloke is a joke to his profession.  Such was his slanted view of decisions towards Leeds I was almost expecting him to not give the penalty - without seeing it back there is no way in my mind either player should have seen red.

If we pick up 9 points this week, that will be enough for us I reckon, the City & MK games are huge - but I think we're up for it - these players just refuse to lie down.

Great stuff

Totally agree with your summary of the Ref Exeter...  A ref's first rule should be that he does not affect the outcome of the game... to many play 'god' and take the role of key focus on the pitch, a good ref is one you forget was on the pitch, and is only called on to apply obvious decisions. Yes he gave us the pen that won the game, but Derbyshire's sending off, I would not even say it was a foul. Their player was injured and I regret that, but the challenge was fair. The Ref wasn't biased, just down right terrible....

Great summary ex, and congrats on the badge.

Not sure about the sending off.

It can only be deemed accidental but if he hit him with his elbow it's inevitable he goes isn't it?

Is his elbow in an unnatural position?, does Derbs have a look at the man during the flight of the ball to see where he can land it? I don't believe any of these would have happened - its not Derbs - he's too nice. The only inevitability is in Friends mind, blood = violent conduct.

How can we begin to teach our kids respect of the referee when the people at the top of their profession carry out their work in the manner that clown did today?, just as youngsters see the conduct of players on the field.

We are so short of decent referees in this country it's frightening

If we pick up two wins against Brizzle and MK it's definitely job done.  But by my reckoning 5 pts will be enough tp keep us up so it is imperative that we don't lose against MK and match their ruslt against Wolves down at Brizzle.

We rode our luck and I for one can't wait for Tuesday night and Saturday. Only 4 points off 15th place.

Echo Exeter's OP. We are definitely not the most talented bunch out there, which is partly why I think we lack self belief starting games, or as Warnock put it we grow into games, but no-one works harder, fights more or has greater desire to win than us at the moment.

And it's exiting again. We were coming to the NYS under Redfearn and it was slow, dull and lacking energy.

Now we are bursting forward having the ikes of Grant Ward running the lines, Mattock overlapping on the left and Newell when he came on. Frecks' trademark bursts through the centre. Teams are now as worried about us as we are them.

One criticism was how deep we sat. Halford and Smallwood were too close to the centre backs allowing Murphy and Carayol to cut in and shoot at every opportunity, which is obviously what Evans had told them to do when they came one. Other than that, can have no complaints at all.

We again defied the odds to get the three points. That result must be deflating to MK Dons. If we can get an unlikely win at Bristol, it massively takes the pressure off Saturday, which is a huge game, reflected by ticket sales, as over 1,500 gone already.
