But I will say - that's what we want to see! If you feel there's a goal in you at any time, you always think you're in with a chance - even 2-0 down to the World Champions on their home turf (told ya I was not trying to get carried away)
If we go out with no fear and get at teams we'll do as well as what lady luck allows us, sit back and we're doomed - it really is that simple
Didn't miss him did we, unless he can do any better than Wellbeck who I think is cack by the way. The pace we have in the front players and bench in depth is perhaps unrivalled Europe wide, question is can we make it work for us in a tournament situation where games are thick and fast?
I'd start every game with Vardy and Kane. They'll cause problems for most defences. Fact is we have to score goals because our central defence is dodgy at best. Don't rate Henderson - I'd play Barclay ahead of him and I wouldn't care if we lost because at least it would be entertaining! If we won, so much the better.
I think his 'class vs form' comments are clearly telegraphing his intentions RE Rooney - I think he has had plenty of opportunities and its time for the young guns to have a go - cant do any worse than last attempt in a tournament
defence wasn't that bad, full backs looked good, dier played well in defensive midfielder role, 1st goal was down to injured keeper 2nd goal was cahill poor positioning, smalling it ok. Cahill is the weak link but he will play no matter what
well after the referee getting the assist for holland for the 2nd goal a defeat in this friendly is good in my view, shows we arent as good as we think and that outside our main 14 players the rest are average. We need to not go over the top and quarter final would be a good achievement for the young squad we can then build for the world cup. Drinkwater did ok, Vardy scored again, sturridge was poor, walcott doesnt impress and milner was awful. This post was on 85 mins so we may equalise yet :o)
Just as I said before the Germany game. We knew who could do a job, a lot of those tonight will be good fillers in qualifications and that's it. We have maybe 6 or 7 top tournament players - that's not enough, it wasn't enough in 90 or 96, and neither was it enough during Sven's golden generation.
Not ultra bothered as long as we have a right good attacking go, we'll never keep the goals out so we might as well have scant respect and go for it. Even the best teams in the world don't like being on the back foot & dealing with balls behind - that's why they're taught to possession death the opposition to stop them from doing it.
Me too sickly. I don't really give a fig. But, you said it first so I'll stand behind you if you don't mind.
I just lost all vibe for them. I've cried my tears but can't feel any more emotional connection. I like to watch games but I have absolutely no feeling about it at all other than; oh! That's a surprise!
Agreed. I prefer that we win but don't feel any great attachment to the team. I think that is because the truth is that club football always has priority. Why didn't we pick the same team against Holland as we did against Germany? Hodgson will say he wanted to look at different players but we all know don't we that the clubs would go spare if their players played 180 minutes in friendlies? Until that changes I won't be able to totally buy in. In terms of our chances, we don't have enough top quality players to win it. Who do we have who is world class? Maybe Hart and Kane. Alli will be. Nobody else. There should be no place for Rooney. He is shot, and has never performed on big occasions anyway. Go with form players. My team would be: Hart: Clyne, Smalling, Cahill, Rose: Dier, Henderson, Alli: Welbeck, Vardy, Kane.
Haha, tell me about it! had some real abuse chucked at me lately on there.....i always want Engand to win and would love us getting to the semis, possible, not probable, but like others, i was once an avid England fan, but grew up to see it for what it is.
Once RUFC season is over & Euro's start we're all English aren't we. Will Shaw & Wilkshire be back, Rooney will. He makes little mistakes but Stones play him in rest of the friendly's try & iron them out.
Hart; Clyne, Stones, Smalling LB Rose, Bains or Shaw; Dier, Alli then from Henderson, Wilkshire, Drinkwater, Milner; Rooney; Kane, Vardy.
