I get your point smiler but let me tell you the 2 lowest points in my time as a Rotherham fan.
1. It was a Tuesday night - I was visiting my sick wife in hospital and the millers were due to play Aldershot at home (DVS) in the FA cup. She told me to leave her bedside and go to the match. I went and watched a millers team throw the game and left at 70 minutes because I knew they had no intention of winning and having to play Millwall away.
2. I was stood at NYS and the team against Charlton Athletic was announced. It didn't take a genius to know that it was a 4-5-1 combination at home to a team that couldn't score in a brothel. I kid you not I KNEW we were going to get tonked before the game.
My point is that Neil Redfearn made me feel rubbish before a game. Not even Danny Bergara did that.
Neil Redfearn is without doubt a very good youth coach and has an excellent eye as a scout.
Neil Redfearn knows nothing about man-management and formations.
Neil Redfearn was rightfully sacked. Just two games too late.

Same formation did for Bolton 4-1 at home and just got us consecutive wins. I think we were just crap on the day against Charlton Heman, and because some people instinctively see 451 as negative if you play it and lose it is an easy thing to blame. It is seen a defensive set up. Maybe it's a good job we didn't play 442 against Charlton or they might have got eight! Evans has been using the same formation regularly at Leeds. Man City, Everton, Arsenal, Leicester use it routinely.
Myself, I think it is usually about how well players play on the day more than what formation they use.
I am not (despite what people may think) a huge fan of Redfearn. I just think he is a decent man who got the wrong end of a particularly dirty stick, and the hatred for him deflects away from the bloke who put the dirt on it, and who walked away from us when he knew he had ****ed it up for us talking about integrity (really?) and how well he would have done for us, and that winds me up. Or should I say wound me up (I have moved on from it). Especially because I don't think we should have gone anywhere near him in the first place as a matter of principle. But I've moved on!
I do though understand what you are saying.
I had to laugh thinking about the clown thing. I can't get the image out of my mind of a certain someone turning up in his space at the stadium with a car that falls apart after parking, dressed up like Charlie Corolli and squirting water out of a flower at the fourth official while his assistant throws buckets of confetti around.
The great thing about Warnock (apart from the results) is that he is neither Evans nor Redfearn, so in a sense we can all unite behind him for the common goal.
Believe it or not I've never called for a manager to be sacked. I certainly don't dislike Redfearn as he is a decent bloke. He was just way out of his depth. I think to play 4-5-1 you need stamina and pace in your team. Under Redfrearn we had neither because the loanees he brought in were no better or injured or unfit.
Onwards and upwards Heman. Lets hope we get three more points tomorrow and we're talking about needing three maybe four more wins. Looking at the Derby forum they aren't brimming full of confidence.
Its ok isnt it to feel what we feel and even more ok to think. Being largely rational in an attempt to remain true to ideas of fairness and good manners (after all what extra is achieved) I wanted Redders to go after several games- I said it at the time. It was because I thought I saw a fault in his character that wouldn't translate to wins.
Later, I felt he had some chance if he could get consistency in to his team but then I abandoned that idea when I realised he couldn't.
The club gave him far too long based on the evidence. Where was the evidence?
He didn't produce anything different. His choices of starting 11 were quickly perplexing to most fans He blamed evans a lot He started to blame the players. He even had a dig at Tony
I think it amounted to a chap who was currently out of his depth and due to his age may mean he wont make a good enough manager.
Form goes up and down but the better managers arrest any dips fairly quickly. There are lots of good examples with a few exceptions.
I think steve evans is a pretty good manager. He has thrived in many different environments and done his apprenticeship over decades.
If there is a manager in the game who has come with such a grass roots pedigree and managed well at every successive division then I cant easily recall him.
Based on the facts Steve Evans has to be see a success.
At our beloved club his success cant be denied and the only thing that can be levelled against him is the last 10 games when the team was misfiring and he made some miscalculations but what he would have done is not knowable. His track record suggests he would have done alright. He was sacked not because of performances and results but do to fundamental issues within the relationship to the club.
In Neil Warnock we are currently seeing a master in comparison to both of them.
The ease with which he has reshaped the team and embedded a serious and professional mind set is quite staggering .
His motivational skills are quite staggering and I dont feel Im exaggerating. He does not bluster in either the negative or positive yet somehow managers to sound inspirational while talking about very basic issues. There is little direct criticism yet listening leaves you in no doubt you can do better and being better will make you feel bloody good about yourself .
He manages to make his story your story. quite the magician really.
There was a Good BBC article (SADLY NO LONGER AVAILABLE) about Jose mourhinos speech and behavioural patterns and I reckon neil Warnock is not far off that calibre of uniqueness
You do know Evans' history with Boston don't you Ian? It's just that his cv gets spoken about as if it is all pretty ordinary, or exceptional in a good way.
I was a Redfearn supporter in that I thought he was a decent enough bloke and dearly wanted him to succeed, not only for the club but for himself. In the end I had to admit it wasnt working and with a 'heavy heart' had to accept he wasnt the man for the job. Having said that I thoroughly dislike the venom thrown at him from some quarters, he took the blame for a mishmash of a squad that wasnt working and clearly didnt have the qualities to pull it into shape. He was unfortunate with his choice of replacements who were either not match fit or easily got injured possibly because of their lack of fitness. As Smiler says we move on but I do believe it would have been different for him had he come to us at the end of last season.
As for Evans, well his record of two successive promotions speaks for itself, however I didnt want him as our manager. Living between Peterborough and Boston I have known of the guy long before his association at our club and was aware of the 'talk' that was doing the rounds at that time. Yes it was just talk, some may have been true some untrue but either way it was enough to cause me dismay when he was appointed our manager. I leave this particular saga with the words from a Crawley fan on MM when he came to us who said that he would do well for us, but leave us in a mess !!!!!!!!
Well its all about opinions but Ian I love your views on Warnock, he does seem to be something special doesent he? If he cant save the day I dont think anyone can.
We might still be in bottom 3, but now 6 points off 18th, and 7 points off 16th!!... other team are getting dragged into it, it's no longer us plus MK dons, if we can keep picking up wins plus the odd draw then something has to give... 4 wins and a draw ?
other good thing about today is that Players will feel like a win and flushed full of belief and confidence... plus plus.. a Leon Best starting to get goals is no bad thing!!!
looking fwd to footy league show (or whatever it's called these days..)
