Despite all the welcome endeavour today there was a notable lack of class and quality from RUFC. Danny Ward, who I admire greatly, had 3 golden opportunities to put us ahead but failed each time. Derbyshire was disappointing in both his fitness and his distribution. However, I reckon our main concern is defensive midfield. Smallwood is a shadow of the player he was last season and we desperately need Frecks or someone similar to boss midfield. Hopefully, NW will use his contacts to bring in some quality to both our attack and midfield. The problem for NW is bridging the gap between us and those just above us. I do believe that teams such as Blackburn could well join the relegation battle, but we have to catch them first. It's not impossible but it's a tough ask to expect NW to get us out if this mess. With his leadership and his contacts he can hopefully give it a fair go. Here's hoping.
It's a very tough ask and one that we might not make. We know the reasons why.
What I took from today was how much difference true effort and focus makes. We as fans and especially TS should always remember this and demand of every player and manager nothing less.
TS, will have learnt another lesson. It might be too late for this season -we will see-however, whatever happens it is now a solid memory in his mind. Warnock today restored our faith in endeavour and our sanity knowing we as fans have been right all along. The players need passion and they haven't been giving it each week.

Green and Smallwood together in midfield, Danny Ward chosen again, standout attacking option Grant Ward relegated to the bench, top scorer not selected, D Ward and Darbs never work as a pair, only ten shots at goal in a home game - half what we had against QPR and even Charlton and less than at Bolton - and only two on target, negative at the death not using Halfords long throw, lost ground on the teams above us.
These are not my criticisms. This is just a selection of the criticisms that would be flying around if Redfearn had been in charge yesterday. In fact on the dark side there are already a few of them mentioned, albeit politely for now because Warnock is in a honeymoon period. A couple more games without a win and that will change as sure as I am sat here.
Don't get me wrong. I know Warnock has a tough job as Redfearn did. I am not having a go at him or the players. I am just saying that it is amazing what a pair of rose tinted glasses can do. I don't think there was any more passion and commitment than we saw against Reading, Hull, Brizzle, Brighton or even some of the games we lost. Passion and commitment have rarely been the problem. Quality has, and that was also the problem yesterday. We were ok yesterday. No more than that. It was NW's first game and it was a lot to ask that he would make a big difference immediately. Good luck to him. I hope he does well for us, I really do.
It's the time for the players to stand up and be braver than they have ever been before.
That is also a big ask.
The players, in my opinion, began that long journey yesterday.
Shots on target, they were a better side so you would expect less shots. Everyone expects this to work that to work two up front (you got that yesterday no goals) . Makes no difference at the moment, there is little to choose between them until we can 2-3 QUALITY players in. G.Ward would be one, lad from Birmingham (forgotten name) that's two. The rest are around the same level bottom of the championship top half of div 1. 2-3 good loan signings would help. But there's still a while to go. Utm

Absolutely right Andy. NW's interview was very upbeat and full of praise for the players and their effort, and rightly so, but NW knows the score, he will have seen the gaps and the weaknesses, and taken note. I think we will see some changes in the next game (primarily due to the two sendings off) but after that he will have got to know what he's got a whole better and where he will need to strengthen. At the end of the day he's not god and what we dont need is the misery merchants revving up if its not win win win all the way.
Probably gonna be a bridge too far, had it been at Christmas there would have been time. To match watch what City do which would include go down (up!) there and win and get an extra win than them with the run in we have looks a very tall order. While I've no doubt about Warnock's credentials, he can only use what Redfearn had to work with, also Warnock's all action style, while that's what we need and want to see, there will be a fair few we have to play who are cute enough to pick us off regardless. Stats are pointless other than this. QPR t'other week had 3 chances scored 3. Fulham yesterday did the same to them, 3 chances and scored. That's what 20k a week buys you, Either we need to pay for that or create 3 times as many chances to equal it up, can't see either happening can you?
As you describe it Ex ( and it is a fair assessment) then no, I cant see it happening, but we live in hope. There is one thing for sure tho, and that is if we survive, the board are going to have to secure new investment to try to pay the sort of wages you mention if we are going to at least establish ourselves mid table in the Championship

I agree Smiler that the task would have been as difficult for Redfearn as it will be for NW. In our predicament though we need every advantage we can grasp and if Warnock gives us a small advantage because of his reputation then we should make the most of it. The one thing that NW has over NR of course is that he is a "National Treasure" and can therefore do no wrong!!
I think the stats are fairly pointless. I was listening to Leicesters stats on the radio . Possession and pass completion are about as bad as they get. Bad! Well, they still win games and lots of them. Maybe poor possession and pass completion is a hindrance to winning matchest!
There will be comparisons with SE and Redders but both had enough time to change it and do what is needed. Now it's NW. On the plus side he showed he can motivate and produced a solid football display on his first game. His observations were supportive. No moaning. No ducking responsibility. Left me with a can do attitude instead of feeling drained as previous.
He's the best man for the job. Would I trust him long term? Maybe not. But, I trust him for this job.
If he can motivate the team to the extent he did on Saturday we have a chance. Saturday was about where we need to be effort wise but he now needs to add the tactics and get the players in the right parts of the park with the right balls.
