Danny Schofield but far more severe financially. I think Halford knows its his last pay day, anyone in their right mind would sit on it. But for every good player Arny, Newell, Morgan, Frecks (just sticking to our own here there have been 10 bad), some of them very expensive in our terms. Tony was right to force Evans out with reputation in tact, the man was reckless although not entirely to blame, the financial controllers held too much sway on 2 men with very poor judgement. We now pay the price and will do so for another 18 months
As much as it leaves a bad taste we have to realise they are professional footballers and in it for as much they can get out of it they dont feel for the club as we do.
Make him train and play with the kids every game, if he refuses good then you build a case, assuming we have put some clauses in the contract. This is the clubs fault for not writing proper contracts end of, evans wasn't involved in the contracts the club and evans said that many times. It is sad when a footballer that is blessed with enough ability to play professionally is happy to end his career early for the sake of a few quid, all the ex-footballers in the media state time and time again how they miss playing. Gordon taylor at the PFA is a disgrace, they should do more to get footballers playing not just creaming off the top like they do.
He signed a contract in good faith for a value Rotherham United put him, why it didn't work out for him is anyone's guess. He has every right to see it out if that is what he decides. Hopefully, he will have more self respect and ambition than that and move on.
I really think that professional footballers want to play no matter where and at what level. I wonder if we've had any offers to take him as it looks unlikely. Plus, he might well be on big wages which would mean we pay the bulk anyway for the foreseeable future, he's obviously not keen on merely tearing up his contract like a couple of the others have, which would suggest that he might not find another club, at least this season?
Described as 'outstanding' if I remember correctly when he signed. So far he as shown to be outstanding on Twitter by all accounts. As mentioned above he signed a contract in good faith so the club has an obligation. Having said that its my opinion he has an obligation to himself with integrity as a professional footballer to earn a living as a professional footballer......its' significant that no one came knocking !!!!!
