Today has to go down as the lowest point of a pretty dismal season so far. Whilst I'm not criticising the effort or commitment, the entire team couldn't string two passes together, also they collectively seem to flatly refuse to shoot from distance & seem to tire badly after the 70 minute mark (Warney?)
Paul Green bless him, he tries hard but his best days are clearly behind him & he'd be better off going down a division or two to end his career as he clearly can't cut it at this level anymore.
Richie Smallwood, does a good job breaking up play & winning possession etc but please just sometimes, treat yourself & play a forward pass sometime & yes, like the rest of the team, you ARE allowed to shoot at goal.
Shay Facey; If he's a pro footballer, I'm a Dutchman. He is dreadful, lightweight, can't defend, tackle, has got zero pace, but he's from Man City so he should be good........errr.....no!!!
I actually felt sorry for Grant Ward today, he was all over the place today, trying to make things happen, but his teammates weren't on the same wavelength, well same planet really.
You can't defend a performance like that, whether you're a fan or the manager. Get em in tomorrow morning, pick astarting 11 for Bolton then, work out a gameplan (hopefully not playing a five foot 8 centre forward on his own & lumping high balls up to him) & work em like crazy all week.
Ward was abysmal and did not look like someone who was struggling because he was 2 steps ahead.he was bad , Brad.
We had several shots from outside the box and they were unproductive although D. Ward did have a great effort. I honest didn't see too much we could have had a good pop at but didn't rather the reverse.
I though smallwood was was okish. Broadfoot was excellent. The rest were total poo.

I was feeling really positive about today, the new signings looked good (on paper) and I thought we would be 'up for it'. I thought we would be 'up for it' with a new 'go get em' attitude, particularly baring in mind we'd heard a lot about Charlton being 'up for it' the big six pointer.
I thought therefore we'd be ready for them. I thought after the rallying call from TS we would be assertive, composed and in the zone to show em we were not the boys to face the drop.......................Then I sobered up. Is it a curse Rotherham United have ? Cants string two results together (except defeats) whoever wears the shirts. Pass me the hemlock
we were garbage top to bottom, the manager was so negative pre-match that has to get to the players, the starting 11 and formation was so so so wrong. I heard the team in the car, turned to my son and said we will lose. However I didnt expect to get hammered at home to Charlton 4-1. However you look at it the best team won they chased everything all game, they showed desire, passion and belief. They appointed a proven championship manager we appointed a youth team scout that trained the kids at Leeds and it really showed. Broadfoot does try but he has to perform at 120% to be a championship player at 100% he is just an enthusiastic league 1 player. Last 3 games he has slipped and the opposition have scored, get some decent boots on. There was nothing good about today and it was finished off with a post match interview where he wasn't asked any hard questions and he sounded like he has never watched a game of football before, you could hear it in his voice he didnt know what happened and what to do. He spouted the same crap as the pre-match interview that it is just one game and doesnt matter, yes it does, if we get relegated by 1 point and they are the team above us you fool then this game mattered. The icing on the cake for me was the "if it isn't broke don't fix it comment" when asked about the team selection. You do not pick a team to play in last weeks game you pick a team to play in todays game, they were below us and we needed to attack from the off, so we play no strikers (Danny Ward is not a striker while ever he has a hole in his bottom). This is the lowest I have been after a game, because they are not a good side, they had the big lad up front (who was excellent) and we had nothing.
I heard Redfearn's interview and it confirmed my concerns about this guy - I might slightly be misquoting but it was something like "maybe it was the wrong team, but that's hindsight".
No it wasn't hindsight Neil - everybody I spoke to before the match thought the team selection was too negative. Also after signing 15 players, and 7 in this transfer window we are no nearer to a balenced squad and there are too many weak links which are not being addressed. Sort the basics out and we will stop shedding goals which will give us a chance of picking points up.
Another thing - I'm genuinely puzzled why some people are so sure that we are making so much progress. We have played well in the odd home game, and generally very poorly away. For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of Jonathan Buchan and certain trainspotters on Millersmad, I didn't watch our draw against a poor Cardiff side(according to their fans) but I still have an opinion!
When you see a display like that then there is no progress. But, we have also had several very solid displays and I don't quite recall that under Evans.
Redfern is hot and cold. He was like this at Leeds. He is a 50% man. He gets it really spot on and then he makes the most glaring errors of judgement.
The team takes much of the responsibility too. They have to manage their own game and all but Broadfooot and perhaps smallwood did that. Every other player was yards away from what we have generally seen.
3 new players who are meant to improve us will take weeks to bed in too.
I don't get it, 1st half QPR we were brilliant, just missing the final touches, had we continued the same 2nd half those chances would eventually pay off and QPR wouldn't have got 3. Anyone who tells you otherwise that at Cardiff we should have been battered to oblivion because of the chances they missed are utter barmy. The maddening thing at Cardiff was go for the throat and we'd have won the game. And so on today, I can stomach 4-2-3-1 when the intent is to press the final third. The problem is we don't / can't / don't want to. I was flabbergasted when Newell our best player and Burke, who given the right service can hurt teams both went off at the same friggin time when we're chasing the bloody game! There is a Danny Ward and Grant Ward love in, that is really starting to be counter productive, neither of these are worth 'building the team around'
If we don't start having more guts and concern ourselves with what we're good at rather than stopping the opposition there is only one conclusion. We've dropped so many points now against those around us it means statistically we need to recuperate those points from games which you wouldn't expect. With our ethos, and personnel, playing positions etc that looks extremely unlikely. Playing like we do away from home we won't win away for the rest of the season and our home form will not be enough to counteract that. L1 next season
i thought the 4-1 on day one of the season was the writing on the wall many months on and lots of musical chairs it was terrible
there second goal was like 4 passes Goalie to goal straight through the middle of the field so easy ffs
froze my B@lls off for nowt we need a new 11 and that aint going to happen
JCH Does seem to create something when coming on, just give him a start at least
they had a tall plan yesterday from the front to the back it worked so well for them for the booing him there #9 did his job
we aint got a go to guy up front to hold it up even for a few secs then lay it off
Get ready for D1 Push for a playoff place
this year especially the championship is showing its strength hard to get promotion and hard to stay in it
my thought for the future and Rotheerham i hope its warmer for the brum game

Agree with this assessment DerbyM – driving back up to Scotland today – I Had plenty of time to reflect on it (just drowned my sorrows last night).
Formation: ‘the if it isn’t broke don’t fix it’ comment showed Redfearn’s lack of planning for this specific match… it’s ok away, you expect the home team to have a lot of possession, so the set up works…
Anyone and everyone before the game was hoping he would have them up for it and take the fight to them, press them and play two up front and treat Charlton not with respect, but with no respect and show ‘em who’s boss….
Charlton came with a plan, played well and we did not look like winning from the off.
JCH and Becchio should have started, Grant Ward plays best on the right wing, I don’t care where he wants to play, play him where he’s most effective…. Green and Smallwood are the same holding midfield players and it’s a waste of a player when they both play.
If Becchio needs game time, play him for the first 30 minutes not the last, FFS!!!!!. He is a player that needs the ball in front of him, he’s got the class to score, we should have him on whilst Newell, Grant Ward and others around him are fresh and can create chances…
I’ve said all season that our worst problem is our fullbacks… it still is. Time after time after time, game after game, the opposition create chances down our flanks where are woefully not up to Championship standard in any of the old or new fullbacks we have at the club. I can’t blame Redfern for the fact Scarz was allowed to go – but he was solid and good enough (and the combination of him and Pringle of the left for me is the biggest loss of all of the players who have gone, we were up to standard on the left when they were together) . On the other side we had Hunt who we lost, Tavs before him… we have not replaced these full backs with enough quality.
As we are probably not going to bring in anyone to replace them however, we have instead to look to creating and scoring goals, and sneak a few 3-2’s 2-2’s and 4-3’s…. so Becchio +1 other striker (Best would be ideal) needs to start each game, we need to play 4-4-2 at home, NEVER play Smallwood and Green together and put out a team that can play in position, not just play 11 players in a stupid formation out of position…..
I like Redfearn, the players are trying for him, but for me the jury is still out on his ability to get tactics correct.
