DOES ROTHERHAM DESERVE A CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE?

After possibly the best half of football that we have played this season in which we should have put QPR to the sword, followed by a tired but resilient second half in which we were undone by quality finishing, 80% of our supporters (?) get up and leave as their third goal goes in. If that wasn't embarrassing enough, we then have to listen to the first two Millers' fans on Praise or Grumble lambast the side for a garbage performance and criticising the manager for changing nothing since SE was in charge and calling for Maquire's return from Oxford. Hence the question in the subject heading.

Had Paul Green's excellent effort in the first half not hit the post or had Derbyshire converted the rebound I reckon we would have overrun QPR. They were by far the worst side to have visited NYS this year and were there for the taking. Their defence was a shambles and with a bit of fortune and better quality in front of goal we could have gone in at the break 2 or 3 up.

The second half was a different matter and it was plain to anyone who understands Neil Redfearn's dilemma that our lack of depth in the squad meant that virtually the same eleven players were suffering from exhaustion after playing 3 games in the past week. With very little quality on the bench, the manager was left with very few options to change the game. It's unfortunate, but that's the way with Rotherham United and we will always be susceptible to teams who have quality in depth which allows them to keep their players on the pitch fresh.

Thank goodness for 3 Rotherham fans who eventually spoke on PorG to put a more realistic slant on the day's events. They at least restored some faith that amongst the Millers' faithful, there is an understanding that miracles won't happen every week and that if we are to survive in this league, it's going to require a massive effort by fans, players and management alike.

Be grateful for what we've got and what we've achieved recently. I'd hate to think that we might turn into a certain local team who complain like hell at their team's performance even though they've just won 1-2 away, or that our manager would rant on because once again the officials have cost his team 3 points even though they've been clearly beaten 2-0.

As long as the application of the team remains the same as in recent games, Neil Redfearn and the Players deserve our support right to the end through thick and thin. I know it's sometimes frustrating but it could be, and it has been, a lot worse!

Not much to moan about. Beat by quality in the end.

I don't personally leave even if 10 nil down but don't have an issue if people do. We are all different and I don't think it equates to who supports the team more.

Everyone did well and we would surely have won with a more clinical application in the box. However, those players are very hard to come by indeed. If we had millions to burn I suspect we would be at least above Wednesday 😁

Totally agree Glenn. My cousin came with us yesterday because we had a relative on the Remember roll. He knows his football but it was his first visit to NYS. He loved it but was amazed how quickly the ground cleared and how negative the fans were after a good game and good performance. In his words 'what more do they bloody want?'. How must the players feel when they give their all and have about 2000 left in the ground at the final whistle. Embarrassing.

Some football fans are just plain fickle. Some people just like to moan. It'll never change.

By the way where's all this flipping snow come from? Those weather forecasters know nothing!

i dont agree with the view people can if they want, if you are a supporter you have to give something to the club and team and not just the money for the ticket. If fans left after 70 mins would people accept that? I bet they wouldn't stay until the end for gods sake

After reading that Derbyshire was responding to sarcastic cheers of his substitution, a small minority need to get their heads sorted out. 98% of us don't want to be associated with that shyte. For all Derbyshire's failings effort and desire is not one of them. Pram and dummies, because those 2% need a 'reason' why we were 3-0 down, this 2% either know **** all about football, are too thick as pig doodoo or have too much alcohol rotting their minds and eyesight. The language around me yesterday while clearly having a young lad in tow was despicable. Now I swear sometimes accidentally in front of the lad, but never the C and T word, and to hear that numerous times is really starting to put me off watching football. In contrast we go to the arena and witness an epic spectacle that for atmosphere knocks spots off football and ice hockey is actually a better spectator sport played by real blokes intent on smashing a few bodies.

I'm not prawn sandwich but if all we're going to get at home games is 90% library, 5% berating OUR players and 5% using language that came out of the arse end of a ****ed up troglodyte then seriously what is the point?

There is a minority in every ground. They also tend to be vocal for obvious reasons-it only takes one heckler in an auditorium to disrupt the entore audience.

I don't know where you sit but some areas of the ground are ok-ish. Come to think of it , I haven't heard anything for ages. I'm in E7 with the kids. These types are just a bit thick. I noticed the same with the QPR fans. A few just at it and never watching the game.

I take the view that players tend to accommodate this and use it positively even if that means moving on-If they are so inclined to use it this way.

On the contrary, swearing and freedom to express have to be accepted as part of our need to protect other values. If nothing else it keeps us all honest and able to make choices and talk to our own kids about the pros and cons of such feelings and behaviour.

On Derbyshire : he has had more than enough games and he isn't up to it. I've enjoyed watching hi's style for the most part and he has some genuine class. However, he isn't prolific enough nor does he provide anything else up front.

Hear hear, Glenn. I was gobsmacked when the first couple of callers were saying bad we were, when we were far from poor. We were still the better side at 2-0 in my opinion. To be fair though I don't think Rotherham is unique to having fickle fans, all clubs have them probably even Barcelona.
