First half hour was some of the best football we have played all season. We switched off for ten minutes after half time and were punished for two bits of bad defending. Then we huffed and puffed but they were content to get everyone behind the ball. Three nil was unbelievably flattering to them. We were better than QPR for long spells and deserved at least a point. Unfortunately in this league you have to score when you are on top. We lacked a cutting edge/final ball and they finished the only real chances they had. A harsh lesson. Overall a very good game. We are on the right track. All the pillocks who were coming out moaning about how shocking we were need to have a serious look at themselves. Too many people are too black and white - if you win you are great and if you lose you are crap. I thought we were better today than against Brighton but things didn't go our way. Sorry to single any one player out, but can anyone tell me what Matt Derbyshire is good at? He isn't quick, he is offside a lot, isn't good in the air, gives it away a lot, is a bit greedy, looks like he works hard without ever getting a tackle in, his movement isn't good and he converts a very low percentage of his chances. For me he is a nearly man who goes through the motions. I wasn't one of those who cheered ironically when he went off, but it wouldn't bother me a bit if he never played for us again.
Agree with most of that.
We were saying after about half an hour that we hoped we wouldn't be made to pay for not scoring when we were so much on top. Unfortunately that's exactly what happened although the scoreline was incredibly flattering to QPR who looked a very ordinary side considering they were in the Premier League last season.
Overall it was a decent performance by the Millers although we clearly lack a cutting edge. Hopefully the manager will be able to rectify a few of the obvious deficiencies before the transfer window is much older.
Onwards and upwards! UTM
Good summing up smiler, but can someone please tell me why our lot are so reluctant to shoot from distance? Gutted with the result but 75% of the performance was good, so not too dispondant.
we played well but this is not the first time we look sluggish after halftime, it is the little things like that which need to be addressed. Both front players have two faults that hurt the team more than people think and which got covered ove on Tuesday because they scored.
1. They struggle to hold a ball up to bring others into the game and take the pressure off our defence when we are under pressure
2. The are always on their heels. They run a lot but it is because they are reacting to something, they rarely anticipate anything, look at the miss by derbyshire after greens shot hit the post, he was caught stood and the defender made up 3 or 4 yards to block his poor effort
we need a minimum of 3 players in to give us a good chance these need to be up front and central midfield
Agree with most of that smiler but you're a bit harsh on Derbyshire, he's a real tryer, and at the end of the day, he's what we can afford isn't he? Maybe when Becchio comes in he might make a difference for us.
Gotta say the first half I was very impressed, I had a doubt whether QPR were as bad as what they were and in the 2nd they stepped up but like everyone else I feel hard done by, football is cruel - but that is the difference between 5k and 20k a week players - they only need a sniff, not seen the goals so cant pass comment but don't really want to as we shouldn't get too down about it - the lads for a large part of the game gave their all and really looked like a team who have a direction. Had Greeny's chance gone in, its customary that Derbyshire would miss that rebound. I'm perplexed why Danny Ward went off, he's got that unknown quantity you need especially chasing a game - wrong decision for me, Derbyshire like above, I've seen enough now to know he's not good enough for this league, not for the want of trying by the way - but whatever he meant by that double thumbs up to the north stand when subbed, I hope that isn't a **** take gesture because the last thing he needs is to further give fuel to the haters in the crowd. The ref was appalling - he might as well have hugged Hoilet and say I'm your best mate, when are these 'professionals' going to be held accountable for their inept decision making?
On another note, chatting to QPR fans on way to arena and they said they've seen much worse than us this season, we're big strong, in your face and really liked our left winger (who doesn't?) - I had to correct one of thrm when they said it was their best away performance of the season, I said 'surely you base that on the 2nd half'. Seriously if that's the case we've got nowt to worry about, but we need to learn to score when on top, and more importantly score first. A recurring theme through the champ seems to be that those who do tend to get points out of games.
As a spectacle it was a good game. It sounds like I am a sore loser when I say the referee was so poor that he actively promoted diving within the game.
I only ask that our team tries its best. They did. No complaints.
Team selection. How the manager picks Derbyshire before Clarke-Harris is beyond me.
Finally I wish I was on the pitch for 5 minutes yesterday because I would have kicked that diving little pig number 23 into the stands and said THAT is a foul lad.
Just proved how easy that ref was faked when Ledesma did some kind of ballet star jump dive in the last few mins and he bought it. I bet his wife has been faking it for years and the ref doesn't know. I don't get it, these are footballers not theatrical artists, if a referee like yesterday, is unable to tell the difference between simulation and a legitimate foul they should not be refereeing at ANY level.
JCH has to start every time over Derbyshire, especially if we see him as an investment to make money on. JCH, I counted 4 times yesterday he'd positioned himself brilliantly and pointed forward for a through ball yet was ignored each time. We need to stop the 1 dimensional thinking get it out to Ward or Newell, including coaching inside balls between full backs and centre halves, and for goodness sake if you're 8 yards out no matter who you are blummin shoot!
after a nights sleep my views not really changed, we have the ability to stay up but we need to change a few things that we all know and so does the manager.
1. We need a goalscorer
2. We need a better central creative central midfielder to spot the runs and killer passes (Green played well but he is a squad player)
3. We need at least 4 extra players to cover for injuries and the sick notes we have (best and kelly)
4. I know I am on my own here but bring back Maguire I like him and think he hasn't been properly used. Only concern is he trouble in the dressing room, if so better off shut
5. We need to learn to change tactics in a game
6. Pick up draws in games where we concede first

Haha, exactly what i said during the game, he'd have had summat to moan about i tell thi...
Too right. Just before he got subbed he show boated rolling his studs over the ball. He'd only do that once in my book. Where is Guy Branston when you need him.
Don't want Becchio wasn't fit last time, he's 1yr & a 1/3rd older at 32 no thanks. Or Revell left us for more money, let him have his money, don't want him back.
Need to up the quality in midfield ( someone who can take corners & free kicks from our left. + a striker whose better than what we've got.
Think we might be better playing 4-5-1, we're to open as we played yesterday.

When Rawson is fit, I wouldn't mind seeing Belaid given a chance in midfield. His first touch is great and his distribution is good. My jury's still out on Green. Excellent second half against Brighton and excellent first half against QPR. I still hold my breadth when he's in possession in a defensive area! I'm a fan of Newell's but he, like Grant Ward, have a knack of doing a disappearing act for chunks of the game.  Still, if everyone was perfect we wouldn't have anything to talk about!
First Half he was playing well, but Second Half he was dire. I really hope he is only playing Green because he thinks we haven't got anyone else to come in and do a Job. Tom Thorpe? Every time Green is on the ball I have my head in my hands.

As hard as he tried and as well as he played in the first half, the fact is that it was Paul Green's sloppy error that led directly to the first goal.  It is a shame but it is the harsh truth, as is the fact that it is not the first time. Unfortunately I know what you are saying Chrissando - when the ball is with Green just in front of our back four I instinctively hold my breath until it is safely with someone else. Again, it's a shame but it's true.
Yes we played really well first half but always lacked a cutting edge. Second half, I thought that QPR changed things by playing one up front and swamping the midfield which led to us adopting more of a long ball game. Surprised that Green got man of the match as it was his error that led to their first goal. Broadfoot done for pace second goal. I wonder if that third goal was offside?
Underlined our need for more quality up front and in midfield in my opinion. They took their chances we didn't. Something of a rude awakening too for Belaid who I thought struggled badly in that second half.
Ultimately another disappointing day in this season of woe. Our away form is so dire, we need to win our home games otherwise we will be relegated.
NR needs to somehow add to the current crop with that bit more quality despite our apparent lack of funds. Glad he's our manager and not me.
