just a question is anyone worried about the lack of signings in the 1st week of the window? I ask because we have a lot injuries an important match in under a week. The facey signing is good, and rawson extension great news but surely we need another defender in and a midfielder before the Brighton game.
Realistically we cant be waiting for back end of the window or the feb/mar loan period as we are in the 2nd half of the season now and matches will tick away.
Any players brought in this week on loan may not be allowed to play in the FA Cup so it makes sense to wait till next week. Expect a couple of young lads to be brought in and possibly one or two that are on trial at the moment. Anyone expecting big money signings may be disappointed.
Not worried at all. Only days into it. There has been very little business done by anyone. In securing Rawson and signing Facey we are off to a fair start. We may have to move people on at the same rate we get them in, and may need to sell anyone we can get a fee for before we can pay money for anyone. This can all take time as people weigh up their options. Nothing untoward to read into the situation so far.
loans can be until end of season so timing isn't important. Surely the management team need time with the players to train together??
Another player left today so we know that we had 18 fit players before Preston (redfearn stated in post Preston interview), 2 more injuries makes it 16 and one of them has left. So based on what the club have told us we only have 15 fit players at the club. Two of those players are Collins and Green and another is a keeper.
It's difficult to be worried when there is no clear advantage to early signings. Look at preseason.
Of course I hope we get one or two in before next week but not a disaster if it takes a couple of weeks. The impact of a good player is obvious quickly. Look at dickho, tavs, hunt and martinez.
Ian i disagree lets say we do some ok business by month end but we lose to leeds and brighton (remember we are struggling for a full team) that will be 4 defeats on the trot, losing is a habit and confidence is key for football. We are already in a league of 5/6 where we need to come in the top 2. We cant afford to go on a bad run, also it reduces the chance of getting players. We should have had players lined up and have brought in at least 2 additional players (now that may happen over the next 4 days).
The problem I see in all this we have the time, lets be patient it assumes that if we do get the players they will gel other teams don't get results and we have the time.
Now yes we could be lucky and yes we could stay up, but each day in the window we fail to strengthen in key areas and each game we lose is a step closer to league 1. Now if we go down then we go down but lets at least give ourselves a chance
Of course; it's always best to get things done early but I don't think it's critical for it to be done today or tomorrow. It's true that the window of opportunity is only several days and so I agree that if we don't sign players by this time next week it's a missed opportunity and every match in January becomes potentially costly.
One has to assume (the exception being Arsene Wenger) that the club is doing everything it its means to get the right players in. That being said it's always a risk and a gamble and one that may well be making Redfern splutter...unlike his predecessor who didn't give a monkeys about making mistakes.
I read a manager say a lot of clubs wont let their fringe players leave as they will probably use them this weekend in the FA Cup almost one last look before they decide what they want to do with them, It might even have been Evans who said it, but it makes sense really.
Think that will be the case with us as well tomorrow, although it would be nice to win our focus has to be the league and survival, suspect Redfearn will try a few of the fringe players out give them a chance to prove their worth to us.
I think if we can bring Revell and becchio in they would be good, because they will give us good options and allow us to reduce the wage bill with Derbyshire going out. Also I know Revell isn't a 20 goal a season player, but he is a fighter and we need that between now and may. I think we need two midfielders and a central defender and that is where we need to push the boat out a bit, not go mad but accept a higher risk.
I don't mind relegation, what would upset me is if we don't fight to stay up and if we arent prepared for league 1

Derby i have to disagree we need some goals, we already have at least 3 strikers at the club and 2 out on loan that cant score, do we really need another ??
Gazmadmiller you need to look at our goals scored there is only one team in the bottom 12 cubs that has scored more goals than us. That's us second best goals scored in the bottom half. As for the goals against not one single team in the whole division has conceded more than us. We arnt short of goals it's defence and that starts at your center forward if he doesn't give the defender the time to look up etc etc . I'm not saying we need revs back BUT do you think if he would have come on against Preston he would have had the jch attitude and scored the og.
There is a place on the bench for a revs type player, a goal up wanting to hold the ball at the other end and not concede.

Fliker, I have no problem what so ever with Revells effort and commitment. I do have an issue with his skill as a footballer at this level, as i have said it didnt take long for Cardiff to work this out. As for the amount of goals we score, i cant argue with fact, what i can say is if our motley gang of strikers converted a quarter of the chances presented to them we would not be where we are now. Granted some of the defensive work so far this season has not helped but hoof's crossed we may now be sorting that out. So goals win games, we need goals Revs = 5-6 per season thefore 3 till May, not good enough for his other attributes to warrant a start. Sorry that's but my unproffesional opinion.
