reports that Wednesday and Reading are lining up a bid.  Should we cash in or try to keep the lad?

He isnt going to stay beyond his contract.

If a firm bid comes in then let him go.

Its not up to us unfortunately.

I'm sure with better players around him, who allow him to be a menace around the box and not scrapping for 50/50s around the half way line he'll flourish. Unfortunately we won't ever be in a position to provide that so anything high 6 figures plus add on incentives and we'd better cash in, use the dough on players that is more to our ilk of scrap and fight in the bottom 6 of the champ.

You never can be sure, but my guess is that he is a player who clubs will always be willing to have a punt on because of his raw potential, but who will never quite realise it. We may not have a realistic choice if he is offered a good money move so it might be academic, but in so far as we have a say my view also would be that if proper money is offered we should take it and reinvest it.

These might just be lazy rumours by the way.  Reading have sold Nick Blackmon to Derby so have cash to spend and need a striker, and rumour has it Wednesday missed out on Blackmon themselves.  It is the start of silly season.  On the subject of Wednesday, McGugan seems to be well out of favour and if he was available on loan or permanent and it was do-able I would have him like a shot.  Exactly what we need - a midfielder who will get on the ball, keep it and pick a pass.

Undoubtably got talent however.....Evans had a problem with his attitude, Redder's dont seem keen and looking at the last few performances from him, the dummy has deffo been spat. With our budget based on the squad available at PNE we cant afford to carry players. In my mind if he has an attitude play him at Leeds, tell him OK lad show me what you've got if we get the same as PNE let him go, cash in.

He has undoubted potential but seems to lack the desire to push himself to the next level.
We can't afford to carry players who don't give 100% and JCH seems to lose interest if things aren't going well for him.
I think some of the potential fees quoted on here are wildly optimistic considering we are talking about a player who can't even command a regular starting place in a struggling team.
It may be advisable to sell him at this stage of his contract providing we can at least recoup what we paid for him and then put that towards securing a more consistent replacement.

I'm sad to say his attitude will curtail hid development.

Check his twitter and although it's largely inoffensive it is rather petulant. Normal for a young man but unfortunately he is in a profession where he needs to mature very quickly.

Some great posts by the way

£800,000 should make a done deal, with add ons  of course. If he is as petulant as they say then let him go regardless of his potential. No player is bigger than the club.

Potential is exactly that ......potential, worth nothing unless it is realised and sadly we dont have the time or the luxury to help him to reach and develop his potential, and even then there are no guarantees. The clubs survival must come first. I'd be sorry to see him go, but as tiger cub says, 'no player is bigger than the club.'

Mcgugan would be a fantastic signing for us i agree, but like you say, it's silly season isn't it.

I don't know if McGugan is within our reach MMM but he seems to be out in the cold at a local championship club so who knows. If not him then someone like him. Almost every side we play seems to have a midfielder who is comfortable getting the ball in any area and moving it around. At Bolton in the second half Gallagher was doing the damage with his crosses but it was the black guy Johnson who was supplying the bullets for him to fire - on the ball all the time. We don't have a player like that. Smallwood is essentially a combative player, it was never Green's game, Frecklington I'm afraid isn't as fit or athletic as he used to be (and at his best he was a more advanced midfielder) and Andreu needs to be playing off a front man (or front two). When we talk about controlling games better, it's a McGugan type who I think we miss.
