evans is right, redfearn is blaming evans and the board as those players that left were the boards decision, man on borrowed time, get gray in until end of season get rid of redfearn an black,
Blaming everyone ex manager , club for bringing in sub standard players ( very inspirational ) , but takes non of blame himself , brought Best in saying he wanted players like him but then can't play him because he's injured , tells us how good D Ward is , answer he's not good enough championship , plays JCH on his own , needs two up front oh yes we've got Best now , perceives with Collins , Buxton Mattock not good enough Tofolo send him back .
Makes you feel as if Cellino at Leeds may have got a point when he called Refern a baby , as he doesn't seem to take any responsibility at all .
Unfortunately both are right. We all know what Redfearn has to work with, the bookies knew it after we signed them and rightly put us down. Evans requested the players, Douglas did the sums and between them ascertained they were value for money. What grates me is we'd rather spend 5k a week on known failures than plucking the best from L1, L2, even non league undiscovered and more importantly in France, Spain, Germany, who have far superior youth development players playing part time football. Redfearn is right to highlight the failures in this, but equally Evans is right in saying its unprofessional. It comes down to this, if we hadn't been so wasteful we probably could have signed Tavernier, kept Agard and Wes Morgan but the likelihood is these players didn't want to play for an egotistical, pub manager with scant respect of players, their livelihood or even officials. Revell, Pringle, Arnason, Morgan all had enough in the end. So that's the absolute promotion team gone, and we're left suckered by players not good enough but somehow managed to pinch a championship wage from us. Douglas will only sign the players Evans said were good enough. The failings of trusting this to one man gave rise to the committee, but we're still under the influence of past failings - and will be until those players leave to some other sucker or most likely their contracts expire. I've said before it will take Redfearn 2 years to sort the mess, nothing can be judged until after that, and yes that will mean in L1, which is where the club needs to take stock, rebuild properly so when we get here again its sustainable
If that's so, the board have realised we cannot compete at this level, the only thing that would give us a fighting chance is infrastructure development and we all know how far away from that we are. We are not good enough for this league, on or off the pitch. We also don't have enough interest in Rotherham for its football, the only way to generate this is sustained Championship football so damned if we do and damned if we don't. In the end everyone finds their level, its just pretty lame that with Millmoor it was mid L1, with a £20m stadium its still mid table L1
As on other thread (opps) I am overwhelmingly pleased he is fighting back.
I dont care about Evans now. He has to let his talking at Leeds be his answer and his achievements here are second to none.
Focus is only on Redfern from my point of view. Regardless of the past he needs to show some passion and make the team his own. If he cant do it then hard luck but he has to get angry to give it a try.
Exeter how can you describe 2 successive promotions and a successful year in the Championship as a right mess, what planet do you live on because it isn't Earth
My 9yr old could have done that with the new ground factor and player budget we had. I said I'd reserve judgement on Evans during his 1st year in the championship where we would need a manager and coach to shine to lessen our short comings. He massively failed on that score, and the repercussions are such that it will take this club 5yrs minimum to recover from. There is a reason why so many don't laud him for his 'achievements', the legacy he created is for his own CV and that's it. RUFC are no better or have no benefits from his wild and destructive methods. Even the most ardent of Evans supporters will quickly forget when we're lower half of L1 next season.
When you have successive promotions you are always going to have such a high turnover of players because there is such a gulf between the leagues.
When you won't break the clubs wage structure to sign the likes of Tavs, Dicko, Martinez, Hunt, you are always going to have loads of loan players coming in.
Steve Evans was fantastic for Rotherham Utd but he is clearly ambitious. He literally out grew us.
He hasn't left us in a mess. Redfearn has put us in a mess and my 4 year old could do a better job.
Seriously we all have our opinions and that is fine and we should respect them, but I would have thought that most people would recognise that a number of Evans signings pre season were a disaster. Roos was a gamble that backfired. The two full backs are really poor. Other teams have full backs who offer some attacking threat. We have two who can't defend or attack. Collins is dreadful. Halford an unprecedented disaster. Maguire hopeless. These players will have been on good money by our standards. It went very very wrong. Would you agree with that OAD?

also not to forget we ended our 2014/15 season pretty well, so adding just a few 'quality' players was the right answer, but Evans did the opposite, despite saying he would, and has indeed left us with an overall squad that is simply not up to it. That said, two full backs, a midfielder and a striker, as someone else said, so 4 players only... could make us into a side that can beat enough teams to have a crack.
My biggest fear, which I think may become true, is that Redfearn will be given zero money to buy or even loan those 4 players in January, and he'll only be allowed to use the budget from anyone we can ship out on sale or loan, which is unlikely to be enough (who would want any of our players?).
So, whilst I'd like to be able to judge Redfearn on his ability with a better set of players, I fear he won't be given the chance. I then worry about league 1...
In summary - my view is survival in this league is only possible if Redfearn is allowed to spend in January to fix the mess created by Evans. Make that possible and we still go down means Redfearn fails, having no money to spend in January means (as much as I like him for what he's done) the Chairman has failed Redfearn.
I agree with all that Davidedin. Despite ending up with a good sized squad Evans seemed obsessed with getting players who were versatile. Have a look back at his statements made when he announced their arrivals. Two things are notable. Firstly, he talked a lot about the quality of what he was getting an the fact that they were specific targets. Secondly, he talked in many cases about how the players offered solutions in more than one position. We ended up with a mish-mash and nobody good enough in certain positions. For example full backs have been a huge problem all season because Buxton and Mattock have either been injures or just poor when available and the versatility of Halford, Thorpe and White and Collins (all hailed by Evans as being crucial in those positions) hasn't helped us. They have all (Thorpe excepted who has shown promise at times) proved to be equally inept in a variety of roles. Maguire was terrible whether wide or central. Like you I worry about the support Redfearn will be given and the silence from Tony Stewart in recent weeks has been deafening.
