I agree with you. some very fundamental points made about focus and attention.

We certainly frequently blow things out of proportion.
We certainly think negative thoughts automatically and so constructive thoughts are harder to come by.
Building is harder than destroying and facing fear is harder than running away.

The only point I would expand is about the futility of taking part in discussion such as you here ;

" Mostly I find it a bit pointless to look for certainty or for rights/wrongs in the footy world, with arguments going round in circles, that's why my contributions are scarce, I don't usually think I can add owt of use to the way the chat tends to pan out. It's fun thats's all and you can learn little facts here and there, (we signed a good 'un etc, here's the low-down.... etc). This board seems wee bit different though".

Life is not black and white, I 100% agree with you. Life is better when shared and one thing that gets in the way is self consciousness due to thinking we are only valid and accepted if...The maxim I work with is to be as natural and honest as possible and I try to stay conscious of not seeing things as black and white-all or nothing. Sharing is for sharings sake and not to prove a point. Its about being as happy and having as much smiles as we can and that at times includes ideas, disagreements, and facts, so that we can be entertained and find out who we are as individuals and together. Thats society for me.
