One for the 'Senior' millers

I do a fair bit of voluntery work and yesterday, in conversation with a client, he asked where I was from as my accent is not local.

From Elsecar near Barnsley, I replied. When he told me he was from Rotherham I asked if he was a Miller. The response was surprising. He told me his name was John Shepherd and played for RUFC in the Docherty era. His career was brief and he eventually went into teaching. He keeps in touch with the club and is friends with Brecks. He seemed to know a lot about the recent comings and goings and did not have anything positive to say about Evans and was surprised he had been retained for as long as he had.

No big deal perhaps, but I live in NE Fife and John it turned out has lived in the area for many years.

Small world?

Nothing juicy or that we hadn't probably guessed.

His view was that he was loud mouthed and rude. If your face didn't you were not given a second chance.

I think he would have told me more but we were in mixed company at the time.

He was just amazed that he was not given the push much much sooner.

John Shepherd was one of Brecks guests a couple of years back, can't remember which game, but he was surprised that people (including me) still wanted his autograph.

Nice friendly bloke from what i can remember of him, talked for a while with the older autograph collectors who actually saw him play.001.JPG022.JPG
