Just back from Boro

First half, we were our normal shambolic self, conceded a stupid goal when Grant Ward lost possession on the half way line & Boro broke away & Downing finished well. Couldn't string two passes together, hesitant in both defence & going forward.

Redfearn must have had a galvanising half time team talk as we were a different side, solid looking at the back, actually keeping possession but we were still woefully short in the final third, although Bowery should have given us an unlikely point when he fired wide when clear on goal.

Like other posters I'm a bit puzzled as to the managers team selections at the moment. For example what were both Ward's even doing on the pitch, they were both dreadful, Green, for all his undoubted commitment, is too slow & ponderous. Newell should have been on from the start, & why was JCH taken off??? For me, Bowery has had his last, last chance.

For all the ranting, tonight WAS an improvement, however small.

When I saw the result, I was relieved it wasn't more. My initial reaction was there must have been a small improvement.

When alls said and done most of us seem to agree that we would be this seasons Blackpool; before a ball was kicked and before Redfearn was even dreamt of as being our manager, so I'm a bit perplexed as to the growing anti Redfearn undertones.

I think Deuce that some did but some didnt.

Tony certainly didn't and many contributors here have posted with optimism about pushing up the league.

Let us not forget also that many were keen on SE staying manager.

Now, all of this is just opinion. Currently however the results and performances are showing no improvement under Redders: 1 point from 15 despite Roos, and Halford being dropped and is equal to SEs start of 1-15. We then got 7-12 before SE was sacked.

The situation now is that Redfern is manager. Nothing else has changed. He is not currently performing well. 5 games is not a lot however and he needs more time before a more solid judgement can be made.

Where I would differ from some is in saying that relegation is not acceptable. I would then have to say that if there is no improvement in results after a certain time then I would sack the manager. I would have applied this to any manager. Even Jose Mourinho is not immune to such a bad run of results.

For me that would be after around 20 games in charge.

Some very good points there ian, I feel just as frustrated and disappointed as everyone, but to be fair Redfearn has had some pretty tough games from when he took over and I'm one of those who believe he should have more time before we judge him too harshly, its a poison chalice at the moment. Twenty games is a fair span to make an assessment and it will be interesting to see who he brings in.

Just seen the highlights 2 words

1. Weak

2. Embarrassing

All over the park too easily brushed off the ball. The players don't want to know, they're playing like they're in self preservation no injury mode, that attitude will take us down.

If my u10s did little taps in the tackle like I counted numerous of that led to numerous Boro chances, half hearted crap like that I'd be going mental. For seasoned pro's to do that they're an embarrassment to themselves and our football club. Its so far from acceptable its becoming laughable

As for Bowery, we bought Alan Lee for 150k, and numerous others for less than that, L2 beckons - what a horrendous waste of money.

L2 beckons, eh Exeter?  Funny you say that as I make a similar point on another thread.  Wholesale clearout and recruitment needed to get anything like a L1 promotion team together - never an easy league to get out of (upwards at least!)  There are only 2 or 3 players I would keep: the rest should take a plumbing course.  Without big changes L2 beckons.

Agree ex, or was shocking to see players just brushed off the ball.

Like you say Mr Kid, Evans did a great job getting us up X2.

Disagree, I think we've got enough to stay up this season. The manager needs to play a formation that suits our strengths and play a consistent side. We obviously need a fee additions, especially when Rawson goes back.

The players who are good enough in my opinion are:

Camp
Buxton
Mattock
Rawson
Collins
Smallwood
Newell
JCH
Derbyshire
Maguire
Ledesma - needs to stop playing for a free kick
Thorpe

To be honest everyone calls me Victor Meldrew and I am really trying not to criticise Redfearn. Unfortunately his formations and team selection, coupled with the lack of passion from the players is driving me to despair. I also can't abide excuses, so all this 'it's not my team' drivel doesn't wash with me.

I agree.  I did predict the appointment of NR and was never happy with it.  60 managers to pick from and....

I think we have 6-8 players good enough. The rest need to go. I just cant believe we spent how much on Bowery? Stupid wages on Halford. Still paying the wages of Wood who clearly hasn't got a cat in hells chance of playing for whatever reason.

Just wasteful.
