A little while back in our recent history i was having a beer in a drafty windswept athletics stadium in Sheffield. Through the car park came a shiny white Porsche from which emerged our beaming chairman and another ruddy faced fella. Who's that i enquired to my fellow supporters, Steve Evans came the reply, our new manager. Fast forward a few weeks and i pick up on a post from a Crawley fan it went - Short term he will bring you success but leave you in a far worse state.
Where are we now, OK 2 leagues higher, but ........... No youth policy, money blown on "experianced championship players" who can no longer cut it and most diapointingly fans bickering amongst themselves about all of the above.

Seems to me the Crawley fan was spot on.
On the plus side BostonMiller may now return to the fold.
Maybe the Crawley fan was right (in fact I'm pretty sure he/she was in their case as they *****ed money they didn't have on miniscule crowds) but surely its not the same for us?
It was proven we had the lowest wage bill in the Championship and we've spent next to nothing on transfer fees. The only thing we have spent more on (probably) is agent fees to orchestrate the loan deals. But they're now sunk costs so that isn't leaving us in a bad state in the longer term.
I know this is unpalatable to those that either didn't like Evans or have chosen to blame him for all and sundry since he's gone, but Evans had a squad that he believed he would've stayed in the Championship with. It 's only his opinion of course, and he's bound to say it, but his history does nothing to disprove him.
It's up to Redfearn to coach, motivate and get performances out of the players. That's what he's paid for and presumably this is why he got the job.
The money side of things is confusing. Oneaday (who is usually pretty well-informed) stated today we had the 15th highest "playing budget" in the Championship. Now ChesterGreen states we had the lowest wage bill and spent "next to nothing" on transfers. Can these positions be reconciled or am I just being dim?
This is a link. We had the lowest wages last year but now MK Dons have been promoted we're second bottom. Most clubs have higher wage bills than us by £m's. To suggest we're 15th is preposterous.
The budget constraints are what they are, financially sensible too, but it does mean, baring a miracle, we will never be a Championship side, let alone mid table choose who is the manager. Such is life as a Miller. Football has never been the same since Sky, and the millions sloshing about in the Prem, which permeates a little down to the Championship, means the Johnny *** latelies in D1 and D2 can never really compete. Gone are the days, even the FA cup final has lost its magic.
The Crawley fan was prophetic and I'm sure there are a few in Boston who will be saying the same, viewing the saga of SE's progress with some incredulity. He certainly has the luck of the Irish
The correlation between wages and league position is incredibly close. We pay second worst in the championship therefore we are highly likely to finish around second to bottom. Now I can only speak for myself but I would rather watch the millers on a level playing field in League 1 than kick the wheelie bin every Saturday. The influx of major investment into the top clubs in the championship paired with parachute payments means that even if we filled our ground every game we would still be around second or third from bottom in this league.
I still remember the Barnsley fan on praise or grumble when they got relegated after finishing 4th from bottom for 7 years. He just stated that he felt that a couple of seasons in league 1 might give them that winning feeling again before a possible return to the unlevel playing field.
As for increasing the capacity of New York to 16000 we would still be in the bottom 6 if we filled that....which we wouldn't.

From the horses mouth 'I speak to other chairman and I can tell you that our playing budget is the 15th highest in this division...'
The thing that upset our leader the most was the constant bleating from Evans about us being the poor relation, and comments such as the Joey Barton petrol money.
Heman, attendance figures only get you so far, I remember the accounts stating that income from sponsorship and corporate income made up a significant part of our income. If guest & Chrimes was a functioning project I suspect it would generate significant funding, TS has public ally stated he had hope to have this income available to help with the demands of funding our championship ambitions
