I don't get the Tony Andreu love affair

The only good thing about him is that he is better than Maguire.

He played one superb ball last night but that was it. He was caught in possession numerous times, tried some fancy flicks that never came off and was forever losing his man in the middle of the park.

He was also partly to blame for their goal. Instead of shooting when he first had the chance he tried to be clever and when he finally did shoot it was poor and tame leading to them breaking away.

Valid indeed, and i noticed he was huffing and puffing in both halfs, his body language indicated he was hanging a bit at the end of both halves.

I think he is a good player.  He gives us something different.  He is pretty adept at finding little pockets of space in between the other sides midfield and back four, which causes them problems and creates space for others.  He is decent on the ball and can see a pass.  His end product is not always what it could be but I think in fairness to him he is still finding his match sharpness.

I thought he worked hard as part of what was almost a 4-3-3 in which he was expected to be a third forward player but trying to track back to make a fourth midfielder, so a lot was asked of him.  He played well last night although perhaps not the man of match as awarded.

Its a bit unfair to criticise him in any way for their goal.  He could have done better than he did with his own chance, but they did have to go 100 yards afterwards to score and in between time Green failed to close down Norwood and between them Collins and Rawson didn't track Blackman and failed to deal with a long, straight ball.  If our forwards are afraid to try things in the other teams box for fear of losing possession that high up the pitch they will be afraid ever to try anything.

Harsh to say when a bloke shoots at the opposition's goal he is at fault for a ball going into our net 80 yards and 3 players behind him .

but this is very valid too.

I like him but I also note he is a little light in his bodily strength but one cant be perfect. He is a must start at present for me but on the current evidence I cant see him being a prem player.

I value his work rate and eagerness to go forward. He is also very good on the ball and can move it well directly putting pressure on the opposition.  Must mention Maguire again here. I just dont know what he is going to bring to the team.

I certainly wouldnt blame him for the goal at all. In fact, I couldnt blame anyone really. The defenders didnt really get a chance to head it or get near to him. One could argue they should have been closer but it was a very fast and direct ball that landed perfectly for the striker and what a finish.

Watching their goal back Ian if you were being a bit harsh you could perhaps pick Green up for not closing down their midfielder quickly enough (or at all), and as we know managers/coaches hate conceding any goal to a long, straight through ball. Sometimes though you have to just applaud good attacking play, and it was a great pass, fantastic chest control and a bullet of a strike. In fact I noticed that a few home fans did just that (applaud it).

I agree with you about Maguire. At present he is bringing nothing to the party. In his ten minutes yesterday he reminded me so much of Paul Taylor - hanging on to the ball too long, twisting and turning down blind alleys, and ultimately losing possession. It is frustrating to watch. A chance came his way near the finish when a clearance fell to him on the edge of the box and sat up and begged, but he snatched at it horribly. Perhaps he is trying too hard. He was a bit of a marmite figure at that other place. Perhaps a goal or two on Friday might get him back on track!
