Ward has coughed when warming up and is now injured. Aidy White replaces him in starting 11 now.

Newell must have  been the player NR was referring to in his press conference earlier in the week when asked about Freck's and injuries ("we also have another injury but, you don't want to tell the opposition too much").

Danny Ward is a real sicknote and I wonder how long we can afford to carry him in the squad. Redders rates him though so no doubt he'll be given more time.

I hope the cough is not spreading through the dressing room.

I'd hate to think that this was going to cost us dearly next week.

Can we get in the loan market for tues. I agree couldn't believe it when I heard Green was playing. Need 2 in midfielder who can defend/ get forward not a cast off & a right winger. Hope Mattock coming off is nothing serious & Newell is back ASAP.

Thing is Redders despite his experience will be 'starting again'.

It was worrying he left Andreu out. He is a good player and dine more in a handful of games than many in double that. He also seems to be improving which is more than can be said for maguire, white, Smallwood and Derbyshire.

Redders surely can't be thinking he won't invest too much in Andreu because he is on loan..., could he?

It's a worrying start.

Mattock's injury looks to be quite serious, god knows with Danny Ward, hardly played all season, Andreu not being in the squad is a worry, as is Newells injury but................................................it's Redfearn's ship now, & we have to allow him to sail it as he sees fit!!

I hope he's seen, and Black would tell him, that Green and Smallwood in the middle in what 20-30 or so pairing starts has and never will work, neither does it give us a more 'defensive' option away from home. I also hope he's seen and learned that to play most teams nowadays and even at home you have to counter attack, that's the way football is played these days, lots of patience with a smattering of sheer pace in the final 3rd. That line up yesterday gave us none of those things and I'm sure 90% of Rotherham fans could have told you that beforehand. We weren't ever going to get anything at Brentford hence my PL result of 2-0. Its not doom merchant its thinking with the head. It will take weeks, if not months to get the old regime and way of thinking out of our system. Things will not change overnight but I'm confident that NR is astute enough to do the right things. The endgame is still the same stay up, and the parameters haven't changed (this will be done by ac***ulating 90% of points required at home). Its an old cliché and basic but football matches are won and lost in both boxes. Its clear our defence as a unit isn't capable of functioning to keep a clean sheet, and certain individuals are just not good enough. Likewise up front. If we keep relenting with Derbyshire, we'll go down. But what has NR been told? The last regime blew the whole budget on crap? And there's nothing left? Something has gone on with Thorpe that maybe involved Halford as a less guilty party, that's the only sane reason I can deduce with him being constantly missing. This lad was lauded by some very high standing people, and surely must have cost some to put on the books (wages wise). We need a Palace mentality, lots of fight and lots of pace collectively without any stars. Pedestrian players, which there are too many of in our squad has to change. Lets be brave, lets get pace on there and go for it, it won't be any worse than it is but will give us goals which breed confidence even when losing

NR gets a bye because he is new. If that team had been put out by SE all hell would be let loose.

It is worrying that the team was a very unimaginative set up. Like some of you are saying where was blacks input. Presumably he had some and it surely can't have included maguire, no Andreu, and green and Smallwood.

If Mattock is out its a serious blow for us.

I'm worried. Its a bad start.

It's often true that a new manager gets off to a good start but NR has a tough act to follow given the last few performances. Well, we have 2 quick games coming up. It's a real test for NR. A baptism of fire. It could unravel very quickly given he has taken over at this moment .

Feel a bit for Redfearn. He has inherited a squad full of SE signings and a number of them are just not doing it. Newell being injured was a blow. We lost a tight away game that in truth could have gone either way. No shame in that. I am however worried about our lack of creativity. Smallwood and Green are not a very creative midfield pair, we have been short of quality wide players for years, JCH is still very raw, and I am afraid that Derbyshire largely flatters to deceive. None of that is Redfearns fault but it has become his problem.
